What's DVDRip as it isn't a video format? And most, if not all, media streamers support basic formats like Divx/Xvid. Either way, WDTV HD is around £80/90, outputs 1080p and supports more video formats (granted iso support isn't 100% but better than XBMC).

As for epic system, cost no issue probably a Myth server based PVR system with Myth frontend (mITX/Pico) clients for each room/tv.

As for 1080p.. There arent many people who can genuinely see the difference between REAL full HD and interlaced HD when watching a movie/playing a game.. I think my XBOX is my only full HD source.

Anyway, I'm happy with my purchase and it would make many others happy so to be brutally honest DOM I dont really care if you've got gold plates mains plugs and the best streaming media hardware in the universe

I'd like to roll out a media setup at home but unsure what to go with.

I like your idea of having dumb frontends and a myth server, but it seems most recent TV's these days can stream shit but the question is what exactly can they stream. In my room I've got a PS3/Sky HD so I can record alot and use the PS3 to view downloaded films using PS3MediaServer but it does fall short on a few things.

I have one, the A110 so the older model.

Boring as hell menus, which seems to matter to some people (ie it doesn't have the slick presentation of xbmc) but plays everything out of the box. No pissing around jailbreaking and thinking will it /wont it play 1080p.

I use mine everyday picking up the shares from my server.

My TV plays almost everything I've thrown at it.

I've been using PS3MediaServer and I installed Serviio to try over the weekend, both work.

TV has iplayer, 4OD, youtube built in.

VDPAU capable machine running a full operating system tbh.

Gives you best of both worlds - can run XBMC, Plex, Myth or whatever you fancy as the front end, but have usenet, torrent or http download clients running in the background doing all the work automatically

You guys are dicks. You asked him to show you a cheaper alternative that did the same thing. He did.

In fairness, John and Dom both complemented AppleTV on doing what it does well, but pointed out the limitations to it in comparison to similar devices. They never said you shouldn't have bought it or that other people shouldn't buy it

You guys are happy with it, that's great, Dom was just giving examples of alternatives.

Actually.. He said something BETTER and CHEAPER..

That WDTV actually retails for £99 from reputable retailers and you need to buy a storage device and a wifi dongle plus it doesnt do half the stuff the ATV does out of the box.

As I said, you're obviously happy with your product, so that's all that matters isn't it

WDTV also does things that ATV doesn't do out of the box, so depends what you want I guess

You've bought a product that doesn't really do the job well then had to hack it to get it to work the way you want
