Right this is a starnage question but i need your help.
BAsicly over the last few days a strange IP has been coming up as being connected to my network. Network map from macaffee looks like this
Its the computer thats not named
And this is no computer in my house. Ive got the IP for it and the MAC adress, ive put the MAC address in the wireless filter, but doesnt block it out.
Should i be bothered by it? if so What next?

I would make sure you block it out!
he could be downloading on your internet and providingyou have useage limits you might hit them and could end up costing you money!

what is telling you about this strange ip?
can you ping it?

yes wireless and wired, no not secured using wep or simular, just MAC address filtered

It came up as connected to the netwrok using Mcaffee Security center. It also comes up on my DCHP table on the router configuration manager
How do i 'ping' it

Id secure it using a WEP, that'll get rid of it and easily done.

surely it shouldnt come through if the MAC adress is on the denied list?

on your mac filter, set it so that you have to punch in the mac address of the computer you want to allow to the network.
And yea, i would enable WEP or WPA

WEP is limited, but as said change the MAC rules so only authorised comps can cnnect

WEP can be cracked in minutes. MAC address filtering isn't much good if he's already mapped your network and knows the MACs of your other authorised clients.
Go to WPA or WPA2 with a decent length key...

the WEP seems to have got rid of the connection for the minute.
But i now cant get on using the wireless range extender  anyone know how to confirge it to work with WEP?

does extenders have a config page?
if so there might be an option in there somewhere
and if you can't access it currently, then switch off your WPA/WEP, change the stuff for the extender (setup up wep/wpa) then switch the security back on the router.
