well i picked the car up at lunch time took it for a spin up the street to the bank and back. all seemed well

then when i finished work at 3.30 went out all going to drive car home under its own steam for the first proper time in months. Turned ignition started and then revs just died and it wouldnt start so tryed a couple of times and nothing. walked up road to garage and michael came down, tryed starting it and big backfire from exhaust then nothing didnt sound good at all. so it got towed round corner to the garage last night.

got a call this morning, reckons it is the valve lifters that have stuck open. said he managed it started but sonuded very knocky.
Is going to look at it on monday and try to get if sorted

knew it was to good to be true. Just hope it can be sorted r i think it will be stripped and sold really dont want to do that!!

I remember when i re-built my 16... when i first started it it sounded like shit! Tappets/lifters were rattling away.....i thought i must have done something wrong but after about 10mins or more of running they stopped and it was running sweet.
They just needed time to fill back up with oil.

went to garage at lunch time. Michael is off today they were just going to look at it but couldnt get in happens all the time. Battery is flat enough to open boot and crawl through tho. Think there may be a wire a little bit bare. will need to check this myself. Anyway they were going to be looking at it this afternoon so hopefullt it will be going for longer than 5 minutes this time

really is turning into a nightmare now had a call from garage, somthing has managed to find its way into the engine and took a bit out the spark plug. There is now little compression in 1 and none in 4. Think this is maybe what happened to it before it was rebuilt as when i removed the old plugs part of the end of one was damaged/bit missing. waiting on another call to let me know what is happening but he reckons i would be best to take engine out AGAIN and take it in for them to strip and have a look at. Just going to have a search on auto trader

i had similar problems with my engine, pistons were kissing valves, we rebuilt it at a cost of £800 and during the running in period the pistons started kissing valves again and i lost compression. Turned out the bottom end had been bored out wrong for the new pistons. It stressed the bottom end and was eating main bearings causing the piston in no1 to not be running true and the gugeon pin worked loose cut through almost into cylinder no2 and there was enough give for the piston to touch the underside of the head. Sounded auwful as you can imagine. Ended up scrapping the engine and starting fresh
