So engine is being removed as i type this. 2 weeks ago it was running on 5 cylinders recovered it to BMW to have both vano's parts replaced and now it has a top end knock so they are removing the engine to investigate!

Worse case is a new crate engine

All under the warranty though? A new crate engine would be perfect, brand new and further warranty would it not?

Yes and no.

Youre only warrantied upto the cost of the car new crate engine fitted is 24k then you have to have the run in service and all that stuff too. Find out on Friday what the problem is

cost to BMW will be far far smaller

If you think about it - they were knocking out these cars new around 60k - no way does the engine alone make up nearly 45% of the price of the car to a customer

Yeah I get that. I just can't believe they can justify that cost

I believe we make around £500 profit on every engine we produce

Pretty poor seeing as it's only done 50k miles.

Not as if you can really thrash it everywhere too.

I know when I was looking at these before I got the AMG, there were so many on eBay with new engines. Put me off.

Do the warranty company buy the car off you if the engine is more than the cars value?

*Awaits Nic to say this is the sort of reason as to why he bought a Volskwagen Golf 7R shopping trolley rather than an M5 as first suggested*
