Oh ok. Guessing the heat link replaces the brushed steel switch then?

If its a combined it'll replace that white unit. If you have a water tank it'll go in as well as the white unit. The brushed steel thing is just a fused switch.

Ah, I think I understand now, John. Cheers

Yeah still got a water tank upstairs so the heat link will sit next to the programmer.

Hope that's correct so i can let him know

Been looking at these more again and still can't make up my mind.

I'm quite liking the look of the Ecobee 3 because it has remote temp sensors

No doubt Google/Nest will release new stuff for Nest soon, there are rumours of a full home automation system based on nest.

Does it update over wi-fi like any android phone? Don't fancy buying a new thermostat tbh.

Some additional Nest enabled devices:

This sounds like a cool idea but I'm not sure how good it would be in reality.. The Jawbone device can detect when you wake or are about to wake and then turn on your heating for you via Nest:
https://jawbone.com/blog/jawbone-up-works-with-nest/

For those that want remote temperature sensors, Wally offers this:
http://www.wallyhome.com/works-with-nest/

Those with a home cinema system and a Logitech Harmony remote can now also adjust the temperature with their remote:
http://support.myharmony.com/en/Nest

And if you want to talk to your nest Ivee can sort that for you.. lol

Like the look of the WallyHome but quite expensive add on just to get the extra temp - $160 for a single sensor on top of your Nest - thats almost $400 which is good chunk of money. Quite a premium for gadgets (as much a I like them)

Doh - Thats a bit of a sod. Any other reports of similar issues (i.e. a software glitch) or do you think its going to need to be placed.

Looks like my Ecobee 3 is a non starter as they are not bringing it to the UK

Looks like the nest with IFTTT integration is the best at the moment. i already have temp sensors round the house on a Pi which could then trigger stuff if I need it to.

Their support forum seems to be in-undated with people saying the same thing.. The general response seems to be "The human body cant detect a 2 degree difference." . BULL SH*T

Thats not good. I can easily tell the differences if its 19 degrees or 21 in the house (or even 17 to 19)

They should easily be accurate within a degree

Well I took the dive and now have a NEST up and running.

One bit I don't get my head round is the setting of the schedule on the app. I used to have the program setup to come on at say 5:30-8:30 and then 40-80. Via the app I can only set target temps.

How do I set the same as the schedule. I don't have target temps for the 'off' time but want it at least x degree for all the time its on.

you just set the target temps at each time and it will keep it there until the next target.. or simply don't bother and just tweak the system when its too cold/hot and it will learn

I don't typically worry what mine says. If I'm cold I press +. If I'm warm I press -.

Does anyone else have the problem where by the app often looses the schedule part? Happened last night when i was wanting to adjust the schedule and then it was back this morning but then a few minutes later, gone again?

Also - is the official next forum the crappest in the world. Currently only can scroll back a total of 11 hours worth of post. Then you need to search.

So I still haven't had my nest thermostat installed

Been umming and arring for a while as hive seems the better choice for me as it allows remote water heating, whereas the nest doesn't.

Also, British Gas are giving me £40 off so it's £159 installed. I could sell the Nest on for about that as it's brand new and still in it's box.

Only thing is the nest looks better than the hive, which looks quite generic and dull in comparison.

This is the first Winter -> Spring transition with the Nest and I'm going to be very interested to see how it copes.. We've been making minor adjustments on warm days & evenings and I wonder if its going to 'learn' to calm the f**k down

Bump. I have been looking at these again. Keen to see what everyone's has done over the summer.

Has it just been sat looking pretty? Does the heating come on now that the temps have been dropping down in the night?

Doe it still learn your schedule in the summer?

Ours is still off, had a couple of evening where we'd been REALLY tempted to fire it up but we're going to try and hold out until at least October
