Good photos from up there! It's an annoying trail that one I found. Did you ride it on a single speed john?

quite a few people lately have said they don't rate the canyons say they ride quite badly. apart from the gearing i can't fault my trek, its lovely to ride. I've got less confidence than the bike has.

over stretching it how often did you use the 42 and 36 combo as in theory thats crossing the chain line which isnt ideal. I can see the benefits of a 36t upfront for speed on the downs but personally I dont think it gives you enough ratio for the climbs but then I guess it is all down to personal preference

Would it be crossing the chain line (like crossing the streams on guostbusters?) as its only a single speed on the front now? Zee short cage mech works ok with a 40t so I hear.

It might be but I believe you can space the front sprocket in or out to compensate for the crossing and I thought a short cage mech doesnt have enough in its range for a 40t or is it a case of changing the high or low screw for a longer one to achieve it

Mate has a short cage and a 40t rear has had for some time never seems to have a problem with it. Will ask him.

Just google it seems if you get the chain length right as obviously the travel in the rear affects the how well the mech will work

Thats fir the 42t but in principle its the same

I bought one of these http://www.oneupcomponents.com/products/r-a-d-cage

and a med inner cage for about £3 and converted mine from long cage to medium, also works with ZEE mechs etc.

Shifting is vastly improved to almost perfect O.E. style.

Riding buddies, lol.

Seen one the other week, looked decent, but much like everything else at the minute tbh. 27.5 inch wheels are too big imho.
