Need to buy more sand and cement and some common bricks to finish bricking up the fireplace.

Hearth is wide because the laminate floor was fitted after the previous owner had fitted a fireplace front in front of an old stone brick fireplace so had to make it to suit the cut out in the floor.

Looks cool I like the idea of having a fireplace but if we put ours back to one we'd have nowhere for a TV.

Last day off today and got the fireplace bricked up. Gap will be getting filled in Friday afternoon. Need to cut bricks to fit the gap.

Went to a local engineering firm yesterday and they cut me some flat bar. Drilled it and screwed it to some wood. This has gone above front door. Bricks are coming out and new door that is the correct size with fan light will be going in.

Also got the plasterer coming round Friday to price up for doing the living and dining rooms.

Tiled the inside back step -

Bricked up inside the front door -

Took the bricks out above the front door ready for fan light -

Boarded the opening up for now. Need to get new door and fan light ordered now. Also had the plasterer round. He is going to get me a cost for skimming both downstairs rooms.

Repaired the walls in the living room and dining room and PVA'd ready for skimming.

Bought some wood and had that cut for recalling the stairs. Should get some of that fitted this weekend.

My theory is they were offered the white door really cheap. It was too narrow for the opening and there was a 3" plastic panel making up the gap!

Door came from Roundbrand. www.roundbrand.co.uk/

Started cladding the stairs -

Too expensive to rebuild the staircase and using wooden treads would also be expensive and reduce the head room, its already not very good.

So clad in 9mm plywood and 12mm plywood will be going on top for the treads. Thinking of having a carpet run up the centre.

And downstairs ready for plastering this week. Took the radiators off this afternoon.

It's getting there now isn't it.

You must be sick of it by now though, I did mine over 3 months which was pretty much at least 3 hours a day everyday, was so sick of it in the end.

I said to the plasterer that I'm sick of seeing the walls downstairs how they are! No matter how nice the rest of the house looks I have walk through in to the living room and see what looks like a building site! Once the walls are plastered and smooth it should look a lot different. Should look a lot brighter once painted too!

Then its just the task of attaching the cast iron fireplace!

He was meant to start on Wed, he text me and said he still had a job on and would be starting Monday. I might pop round tomorrow night and see what he has done. The chimney breast needs browning on before plaster so he might be there 2-3 days.

Cut the treads back flush when we started cladding, they will be wider once new treads are on.

Plastering day 2 -

Left the bit in corner of dining room as there are pipes and an earth cable. So that is getting boxed in.

It's coming along well.

Are you using a dehumidifier? We used a couple in our plastered rooms and it sped things along nicely.

Just a convector heater at 10c due to taking the radiators off, then having windows open every time I go round.

Loved getting my place plastered! Makes such a difference after all the hard work?

How much did your plasterer charge for that? Having the ceiling done as well?
