What makes them quick,is the combination of the engine and gearbox. They work well together. The power is available anywhere in the rev range. The gearbox is nice and close.

The XE has around 150bhp give or take and 144lb/ft torque.Having these as close together in terms of figures,is what makes for a nice driving engine.

Won't be all that much in it between a VXR and an XE.Neither of them would trounce the other anyway.

F16 and F20 gearboxes have the same ratio's.Well the 1s most commonly used in conversions.

Wouldn't kill an Evo though.Maybe at certain revs/speed it would stick with it for about 30mph etc,but when the Evo gets its legs,it would be off.

I went straight from an XE Corsa to a 172 and the difference was night and day. I don't reckon there was much in it in a straight line, Clio prob just had the edge but the handling and grip for a FWD car was epic compared to the Corsa.

Also the set up on my Corsa feels, loads more fun than my old 172 Cup. Also I don't have to take my Corsa back to the dealer once a month under warrenty.

Yeah true but then you've done bits to yours haven't you? Plus you're stripped out that accounts for alot against a 1500kg car lol

Like Eck said if we'd been rolling then I would have got past you alot easier lol but it takes it's time getting it's big lard arse moving :-)

Yours is a good example of how good they can be once played with

Fast in a straight line.

A 182 would be a five million times better drivers car.
If you want to go quick. LET.

One kept up with me in my old 182 FF on a dual carriageway. It was a few car lengths back though so it had every chance to catch up / pass if it was much quicker.

Must have been a well tuned 1.6 or a crap driver in the VXR. Does a 1.6 not take like 8.5 to get to 60?

The only car/driver that i gave a fright was an Integra DC2.

Pulled away quite comfortably on a few occasions, even when he had the jump and pulled out to pass.

That was on the dual carriageway from 60mph ish.If it was on the back roads,i would have got royally fuked.

In my experience, they're on par with the average type r until 120+ and they do pull on Clio 172's but there's nothing really in it.

Scooby's, Evo's, M3's not a chance.

For the money (£500 to £1500) they're isn't much on the road that's as fun IMO.

I'd say 6.5 to 60 and 140mph is fast but i've not driven many quick cas tbh.

i would say the xe with a good launch is nearer 6 secs to 60.... ive had thgis numerous times with a passenger and stripped out rear etc carbon bonnet alimium 4-pots etc all the weght adds up...

but after numerous 0-60's they cant have all been a second out and 6.5-7 was always the slow times mine produced..... however not done it in years as i dont hang around mcdonalds anymore lol but do still own the car.....

like previously said there is better handling cars and more power out there but other things dont seem as fun and as raw as the valver engine it just loves being revved and will go all day long.... im on f40 box and have had 140 on my tom tom and it was off the clock due to them ending at 130mph....

if u want one i say go for it...... just cos it aint the best handling car dont mean it is'nt fun which seems to be the part thats gone missing these days with safety etc and all people car about is if it will do the ring in 8 mins who cares..... there not always the most reliable but with a corsa you also get one of the easiest cars in the world to work on
