25k?

More like 45+

You've gt to Remneber it's just had a rebuild after 16 bent valves and had thousands spent on it.

Done 3? Days of racing one day only done one run,
Now there's a bill for thousands again.

I knew it had alot spent, and as ive said im no expert in massive power costs. I know he rebuilt it after bending valves and obviously all the visual changes to turn it into the drag car. Just such a shame.

Seems a shame to break it Ben. But I can see why you've had enough. All that time effort and money you've ploughed into, and like has been said after a few days it's broken again. How much more would you have to shell out to get that extra second?

I do feel for ya.

Mine
Owes me over 25k all in, and after last engine blew up I started looking at oter cars, now kind of regret the build I've done, as could have got reliable power.. Loads people told me to carry on.. It's easy for them to get the smiles at surprising faster cars etc, but they aren't the ones paying.

I picked up a standard 1.6 for less than £300 and used it faultlessly for 6 months now.. Just shows.

I know everybody circumstances are different, but only so many hours cold mornings laying in rain etc you can bare. The disappointment is second to none.

If I was him, if leave it to one side for a few weeks then decide

Horrible news. Would obviously be a real shame if it got broken for parts, however completely understandable. Just don't rush into any decision either way that you may regret.

defo wont be jumping to any quick decision over it, going to use a bore scope on it tomorrow and have a look inside the engine then make my decision of that

anyway had a great weekend at shakespeare , got there saturday and got on track by 12 , was going well could not do better than 10.9 but ended up doing 145 terminal which i was well impressed with

went out sunday and the plan was to hit 150mph as no vauxhall has done that in the uk yet , stayed on my 24inch tyres and did a 146.7 and was on half throttle in 4th as i have been getting really bad clutch slip in 4th, through out the day i swaped to my mates wheels and tyres and even went onto my mates 26 inch tyres but it just slipped like a bitch , worked out that if the clutch gripped it would of done a 150mph+ and a low 10/high 9 , front springs had settled a little and the splitter was sat on the floor so need to fit old springs back on

pic i took with my mates tigra

clearance much

so plan was to take gearbox out today and get clutch sent of to upgrade it to handle more torque

started to strip some parts of and was meet with this

yes there was some mesh on there so checked the turbo to find this

so mesh has gone through the turbo , ive spoke to my mate and he is trying to find out if we can get just the part that is damaged or do i have to buy a new core , just waiting to hear of them , took top pipe of the tb and there was some bits of metal there that had been choped into tiny bits so it looks to of gone through the engine to , did a compression test and got 98, 98, 112 , 94, so not to sure what to make of that not sure weather or not there are any bent valves or if there is anything sat on the valve seat stopping them from sealing but last year i had a bit of funny compression readings and it ran fine ,and this engine still runs fine now , going to get a bore scope tomorrow and have a look in all holes , been told by a few people who know engines that not to be worried about them readings and any thing that got sucked into the engine would of been straight out as i was doing 144mph when it went and it would of been liquid metal at that point,

not sure what to do as if i take the head of to inspect it needs a new hg and thats £250 straight away , if it needs new valves it will be getting broke

Get some overtime fired in at work and get among fixing it. I'd miss reading your thread as your doing stuff I just can't afford to do on the wages I earn. Quite jealous in all honesty.

It should not need a new head but it may need some valves, inlet valves are quite cheap, the nimonic exhaust valves are not.
Both 1.0mm oversize, I was going to get some 2.0mm oversize made for the next power increase.

its probably fatigued.
if you bend that sort of mesh a couple of times is breaks up.

i wouldn't blame you at all for breaking it, its fought you every step of the way sadly.
