Im sick of having to plug my pc into the modem all the time

Can someone give me a definitive list of everything that is needed to make a house wireless.

Currently i can think of the router and a wireless internet card for my pc and thats about it

You need:
- Internet Connection (tick)

- Wireless Router £40 will get you a Netgear Wireless router with in-built firewall etc from ebuyer.com

- Wireless Card / Wireless adaptor of some sort

That is all

If you get a Netgear router from ebuyer as recommended, you'll just have a power lead into that, and an RJ11 going into it from the microfilter that's plugged into your phone socket.

Your Wireless adapter (usually USB or PCI) will be installed on your PC and will connect to the router.

You may have to connect the router to your PC using an ethernet cable whilst you configure the network (set passwords, SSIDs etc)

The netgear wizard is pretty solid though, good luck

Some routers though are JUST routers, ie not actually modems - so be careful.

You'll struggle to find better than the above if you want a good, solid Modem/Router combo for casual home use

all you need is the following (minus the modem)

How big is the distance from the router to the machine you want to have wireless internet?

The router has a modem built in to it, so you lose the modem.
