Cheers guys!

Lee I only spotted the overspray myself when I got there oops! It will be sorted at some point.

Well it made it! I had such a great day and got to meet some new faces.

Heres a some pics I took If anyone else took any of it feel free to post them up

Now for the bad news On the saturday night we started the car up and smoke poored out of the back of it We turned it straight off and then just took it round the bloke and it seemed to have cleared. However, when I got to pvs I noticed it started smoking again. Driving home it seemed to be alright but when I started it this morning it started chugging smoke out again I limped to work and I've just got home and its just as bad. It stinks when you stand behind it. The oil levels dropped right down so its burning it like crazy My dad thinks the rings have gone on it.

So that lasted long Im very annoyed and a bit upset but getting down in the dumps wont sort it. So its either time for a new X16XE or a full rebuild on the current one. Just about to start pricing up the rebuild costs so which can decide what route to go down.

Ahh well it made it to pvs which is what I wanted Time for a new and improved x16xe

Ah damn not good to hear, car looked incredible yesterday though . Gave me the boost to get mine done and get a project thread up at some point this week . Attention to detail in the engine bay was awesome, just a shame its gotta be pulled out again...

Yeah thats what my dad has just been saying to me. To be honest I'd rather rebuild this one if I can, knowing everything will be right then rather than risking buying another when it could end up being another dog. I just need to wait for my dad to finish off his kit car which he's replacing the gearbox on so that we can get the engine back out to start over

For the mean time, you could put some thicker oil in, see if it reduces the smoke

Top it back up with oil to the maximum mark. Drive it for a few days and take note at how much oil its using. If its only using say half a litre or so a month then theres not much point in rebuiliding it. These engines are so common for using oil and smoking. i carried out a full rebuild (including pistion rings and valve stem oil seals) on my x16xe and it stil smokes on start up and uses a bit of oil up once every month. if its not a huge amount of oil its using up then i wouldnt worry about it 4 the time being. But as 'AW06' said, my rings cost me £80, valve stem oil seals and a head skim was £40, shells were £20 and the head gasket kit was around £30 i think. Just a lot of work 2 do after youve spent all that time fitting the engine =\

Thanks for the advice mate If it wasnt too bad I wouldnt worry about it but its really not good to be honest. Under acceleration I can see the smoke behind me in the rear view mirror and when I revved it on the drive to show my dad it was still coming out like wild fire. The house stinks of smoke now

Its just very weird how its come on all of a sudden Saturday morning it was spot on

Gutted for you Shaun after all the hard work you have put into it

I agree with what a few people have said about the sport engines burning oil a bit as mine does on start up and i have to top it up worth oil every 2-3 months.

Looks great though Shaun mate, shame i didnt get to PV to see it, maybe at billing!
as for the smoking, silly question but does it do it on acceleration? but calms down when "Cruising"? Could it be that you may have over filled it with oil? i did that with mine by accident and i managed to star in my own James Bond film....... dropped the oil out, refilled to the correct level and its been fine ever since (touches wood!).
I'd hope you have checked the oil level with the car level and not after its been run, but your a bright lad, so i would hope you knew how to check your oil levels!
