7th January

2 hours worth of mincing tonight...

I have decided on a subtle custom intercooler behind the front bumper that'll be as wide as I can fit, so the first job was to grind and fold back the metal that would stop me from doing that. (These will be welded back soon)

The same was done on the otherside.

This is the old intercooler that was used with this engine in its previous home but unfortunetely its not the right shape for the Corsa

Here's my mock intercooler.... I know it looks like a block of wood.......

and you'd be right

Bet you can't guess what angle the pipework is going to come out of the intercooler... lol

I know it looks a bit dodge at the moment but don't worry I've measured up and its all going to work fine. (Famous last words)

I also had time to sand down, prep and Etch prime one of the arches to remove the rusty patches.

Still a lot of work to do, but I have tomorrow off work so will see if I can get some good progress done.

Oh and this is the newest member of our family that wanted to join in the build (unfortunetely the angle grinder didn't scare it off so I didn't get as much work done as i'd of liked)

Nice idea but it doesn't sit exactly where i want it to, plus its too tall (don't want lots of the intercooler hidden behind the bumper not in the airflow) My custom jobbie will be Long, thick but not very tall (if that makes sense)

But thanks for the idea.

10th January

Small Update:

My new rear discs arrived today... See if you can spot the new ones...

They will be going straight off to be powder coated (not the pad contact face obviously lol)

Also went to pick up another workshop toy

This will be more than adequate to paint my engine bay, amongst other things

And finally, my powder coater sent me a pic of the rear calipers and rocker cover which he had just finished

Update 11th January

Good progress was made last night with regards to the LET Engine which is going into the Corsa Van.

Just a bit of history... This is the engine before / during / and after we removed it from a doner Calibra back in the summer

It then resided on an engine stand for months like this

And was moved into Ben's workshop a few weeks ago ready for last nights strip down

Off came the Turbo, Covers and loom and inlet manifold etc...

Shortly followed by exhaust cam (we'll be needing that)

You might have noticed the rather sorry looking area around the water pump

I think thats about had it

Next off with the head.... Gutted... COSCAST! sold it thinking it was a GM

And here's the head next to a recently rebuild COSCAST which will be going on in place of it

A quick inspection of the bores.... Very happy considering its done 104,000 miles

We then started cleaning up the block with a Jizer, thinners mix (it was all we had)

Sump was a nightmare to remove.... looks like it had been bonded on in the past for some reason

All cleaned up ready for some paint

But is was late by this point and the block was still wet so we put off the painting till another day.

But whilst I was at Ben's, I took some quick photo's of some of the goodies he has for engine and van

Hi SPEC 4 Pots

Ali Crank Pulley & MOCAL Oil cooler

Vernier to run on the XE Inlet cam he has got

New Covers

Genuine WRC EVO Intercooler, curtesy or RALLYART

Lots of Vaux bits... Belts, gaskets etc... oh and notice the nice new Water pump in the corner and also a Z20LET Head gasket for better cooling

Pipercross Filter

And finally a LOTUS Stack Dash

Neil
