You can get a compression tester from halfrauds for about £17, a gudsons one. Most motor factors sell them.

Although if the rings have gone you'll also have no compression, so a leak down test maybe required.

doesnt matter, ive just read it in hayne manual i'll have a go at compression test tomorrow so fingers crossed

My head gasket went, cost £18 for the gasket, £12 for the bolts, job done.
