Author amp help... fuses?

installed my new amp the other day and it didn't power up.. the strange thing was I disconnected it and put my old amp in and it worked fine. could it be something to do with the fuse on the live from the battery? it is 30A but the amp needs 40A. what size fuse do I need on the live?
