Hey all, Ive never been into ICE or know anything about amps before.
Anyways ive got myself a 1600w amp off ebay, which probably isnt very good quality but im not after super good sound like im sure you guys are after.
Anyway i dont want to buy a wiring kit because my current headunit doesnt have the low frequency output so ill be using it with the high frequency terminals on the amp. SO i dont see it being worth buying a fitting kit.
Will someone be able to tell me or link me to a site where i can get the wire ill need for the power and earth please. and also where will i be able to buy the inline fuse needed in the power wire? Any idea what fuse will be needed? I havent received the amp yet but id like to get stuff organised first.
many thanks

Going from what youve said, you want to have an amp which is powered up but not connected to anything? It needs to be connected to a source (headunit) for it to get a signal to amplify

Hi, Yeah i knew that
my HU doesnt have a RCA low level output though so as i said ill be using it through low level, so i dont see the point in buying a fitting kit for it, as i wont need the RCA cables anyway or the speaker wire as i have pleanty.
What im needing to know is what size/amp rating the earth and battery cable need to be for a 1600w amp and where can i get it.
cheers, hope that made sense this time

MAPLIN
you can get 4awg or 8awg wire/inline fuse holder/solder + connectors here
you dont sound like your running that big a system so thick wire wont be necessary(however you spell it) as your amp wont be needing as much juice.
In regards to wiring it up the way you said you'll need to run the wires from your back speakers to adaptor that came with the amp, it should be labelled as r+,r-,l+,l- where r is right and l is left im sure you get the pattern
Also dont forget you need a remote lead it doesnt really matter what gauge it is but connect it to an ignition not a live or you'll find yourself having a lot of flat batterys.
I think that just about covers it anyone correct me if im wrong

cheers thats what i needed to know
was looking here http://www.speeding.co.uk/acatalog/Car_Accessories_Autoleads__160.html
and the wire seems low rated, 20mm being rated at 720w
so would i be right in saying the 8awg is 10mm and the 4awg is 20mm? which would i be best going with? i wont be runing a big system at all, just 4 speakers.

yep 4 awg is thicker than 8 awg, prob best going with 4awg as you will get better results for not much extra money. If your not running a powerful system dont worry about watts youll just get bogged down in terms like rms and a load of ice mumbo jumbo you dont need to worry about, remember big amps never run at their max and yours wont get anywhere near that rating if your only running 4 speakers!

thanks for that, this is what i needed to know. How will i be able to work out the fuse ill need on the +ve cable?
Any tips in general, ive read the fuse should be rather close the the battery terminal. Earth cable should be less than 2'. does that sound about right? think ive read that somewhere.
Will the level of distortion im going to get running it in high frequency be noticable? Is it just one of those things i need to wait and see. Ill upgrade my Hu at a later stage so hopefully will be able to do it with the RCA cables.
thanks

what size fuse depends on how many amps your speakers draw, id say a 60amp fuse would be ample 4 u, don't know about distortion shouldn't think so. what youve read is right. Think about it this way if theres a problem on your +ve its better to sort it out near your battery rather than half way down the car where otherwise it could cause untold amount of damage from shorting fuses to melting interior bit
