I remember posting a similar thread a few months back.
Mine was slightly different i did overtake the funeral procession and had loads of drivers flashing their lights and generally being mad at me.
I'd waited behind the procession on a nsl single lane carriageway for some distance, when the road became dual carriageway i moved out slowly and overtook like you would with any other slow moving traffic.

It must be a Scottish thing because i honestly cant understand the problem with that.

overtaking on a dual carriage way is a different story, thats fine to do

 | How does it show disrespect if you overtake on a single carriageway, but its ok to over take on a dual carriageway.

Because dual carridgeways are meant to have one lane passing the other.

To overtake on a single lane you have to go out of your way, i.e. use the wrong side of the road.

 Its the impatietness thats disrespectful.

Which would indicate there is a hazard ahead. Most likely a blind corner.

In which case you wouldn't proceed to overtake 1/2 a mile of traffic.

 | The reason you overtake someone is because your impatient. Whether its a dual carriageway or not.

Not really, dual carrigeway is made for RH lane traffic flowing faster. Singles are not.

How can anyone argue that it isnt a cunty thing to do?

 | So just because you have a lane to use to overtake it makes it ok.

I'll happily overtake someone doing 10 mph under the limit but when it's the deceased and their mourners I'll happily wait behind, they're on their last journey to their resting place, I've never come across an event that is so important I can't show a little respect and slow down for a short while.

What Ben said about emergency services heading for a life and death situation, that's quite clearly completely different, it's life and death, being a couple of minutes late work or an appointment is somewhat less of an issue

 Not all the time.
Ive sat behind cars doing 40 on a 60mph road.
I wanted to do the speed limit and the only way around this was to overtake, so i do when there is enough room.

 | I stand by my opinion.

All the Scots saying they'd hang back is fine, they're already got their own football league and want their own government so they might aswell cut themselves away from the rest of the UK and sail out to sea

 | Some people really get on their high horses about all this.

Went to the funeral of my ex girlfriends nan a few years ago now and all her family were going mad about cars not instantly stopping everywhere we went on the way to the crematorium to let them through regardless of whether they had the right of way or not. The rules of the road are no different just because you are in a hearse and the following cars.

I obviously never said anything as it wasn't really the time or place to get in to a debate about it.
