might as well do the whole service
You need
oil (10w/40 semi synthetic)
oil filter
sump plug washer
set of spark plugs
air filter(ignore if you have a cone/performance filter
tool...
axel stands
19mm spanner
oil filter grapling tool
bucket
method
run the engine for a few mins
jack car up
support on axel stands
put bucket under sump
open sump plug slowly(careful here the oil can be hot/also be carfull that the sump plug doesnt fall into the bucket of oil or u will have to fish it out)
get oil filter grapling tool
put it onto the oil filter and rotate anticlockwise till it opens
take the tool off the oil filter and unscre the rest of the way by hand with a bucket up neath to catch the oil that spills.
drop the filter into the bucket.
while the oil is draining off u can change the spark plugs....
wipe your hands if they have oil on them
starting from the left hand side take off plug lead number 1
then using the correct size plug socket take out plug number 1(then may be hot!)
then screw in the new plug using the socket and extension only( be VERY carefully not to cross thread them )
when its hand tight use the rachet hand to tighten it but dont over tighten it
put the plug lead back on the spark plug
repeat this for the other 3 plugs.
take out new oil filter
put a smear of new oil on the rubber around the edge of the new filter
screw it into place on the engine
when it gets tight yank it in a downward fashion to get a good seal
do not use the grapling tool to tighten it
put new washer on the sump plug nut
screw into position and tighten with spanner
fill engine with oil it should take about 3.5-4 litres use the measure on the side of the can to judge how much you have put in.
run the engine for about 20-30 seconds... the oil pressure light should go out
turn off the engine and then check the level on the dipstick
top up if nessasary.
take the car of the axel stands
enjoy
turn

I think the best idiots guide to an oil change is to go to the nearest garage and say the following
"Can I have an oil and filter change please"
I'd suggest going to universal tires in Dunstable, just opposite the hungry horse pub.
That's the only place that gets to see under the bonnet of my car.
Just say James with the white nova to Paul the manager

10w 40 is to thin it will tap its head off
get 15w 40 oil, its thinker will not get thin when hot making the engine tap.
you got the think the engines old and has about a million miles on it
10w/40 semi synthetic is only good for new'ish engines

i am 10000000% sure
shrow the 10w40 in but when you see the post like Jambos after a week saying it sounds like a transit van then i will tell you the same 15w40.......
http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=209877
i am running 15w on my redtop V6 and ran 15w on my 2lt 16 aswell as all the other 2lt 16v engine i have fitted into corsas.......
running 10w will not damage the engine will just sound tappy as fuk after a bit once all the thick oil has dripped out off all the nuts and crannys replaced with thin oil......

I know a lot of people using 10/40 and their engines are fine and are quiet, take that info with a pinch of salt.

What oil has the engine used before?
Vauxhall dont make 15/40 semi only the red mineral oil which isnt suitable for your engine.
