It would appear I have an issue with my speedo cable as driving home earlier on the motorway saw me go from 70mph to nothing without a loss of speed.
Now I've removed the clocks and everything seems ok behind there, but with the winter nights drawing in early, I can't see where the cable joins the box.

Does anyone have a diagram of where the speedo cable joins the gearbox?

Is it common for the cable to just give up without any signs?

No offence mate, but its my car, it's a M reg Gsi with an X16XE fitted, It clearly has a cable driven speedo.

It screws in down by the linkage Mark. To left of where the linkage goes in to the selector

Should screw in there

You can see where it attatches in this picture. To get a bearing of where it is the starter motor goes where that fat hole is

I don't think you'll get at it easy either way to be honest

Might be better off taking the battery out and having ago from the top

Yeah early X16 are cable, probably more of a difficult job on an early shell as the battery tray doesn't move.

usually x16xe gsi's have a 2 piece speedo cable that splits just behind the inlet manifold, then the second section goes into the box, ive got the section from the middle to the speedo if you need it
