If you have a wireless broadband router, and there are two laptops connected to it (one via wireless the other on ethernet cable), can the wireless laptop (which can also access admin features on the router by wireless or ethernet connection) track what sites etc. the other laptop is using and stuff?

you would really need to install something on the laptop that you want to monitor.

im not to sure dont use wireless stuf but a router will only send info to the port that requested it and the hub admin would not keep that sort of info

So you can't use something that analyses network traffic ie. from IP addresses and that?

its just the same as it would be if it was on a norm hub, just install some sort of logging software on the laptop you want to monitor, or just enable file sharing and keep a check on the history.

Depends if its a switched connection or not, its unlikely that you'll see communication between the router and laptop but you could of course check your internet connection at the external facing side and what isn't your own belongs to that computer.

If your router has wired and wireless capability then it doesn't usually matter which you use, all machines on the same network (however that is achieved) all route in the same way.

They're completely independent, just both relying in the same router for connection so no, one computer does not need to wait for the other (well, they do, but it happens so quick you'll never know )

the first pc would have to be on to allow internet connection for the laptop.

Not at all, assuming the router authenticates successfully, both computers just route through it independently.

you talking about a connection running through a gateway/proxy pc ie: laptop connects to pc with two nics. One nic goes to broadband etc

With a router setup, every computer is connected to the router and acts like that "always switched on pc your talking about", therefore no pc is needed to be left on for the other(s) to use the internet connection

back to topic, easiest answer is no - neither one of the machines can see each other in terms of information being sent to each other. However, there are obviously ways of doing either via software(would mean something having to be installed like sub7 etc) or via a connection inbetween the cable modem and router/switch and simple network packet software could "sniff" out whats being sent etc etc

But no, your porn stash on your pc is safe from your parents
