heres the situ..

had a colour laser printer built in network card etc.. that stopped working we bought the same printer but slightly newer model, plug it in using all the same setup and it won't work on the network, the printer just can't be found, firewall's not blocking access to it, and i've tried searching by mac address but it just can't find the printer, any clues?

have you set the domain & printer IP on the new machine, so both are different?

Had similiar problems with my QMS MagiColor 2, as I got one of the numbers wrng on the subnet mask

it's a magicolour 2300 dl,
i've set the printers ip on the computer, no option to actually change ip on the printer, i jsut can't figure out why it's not working, network all works fine still get to all comps so it's not a network fault, just the printer's not working on it ?!

can you ping it?

we have 3 on our network, but only problem with one was it forgot its IP address...

If you are not printing in a DHCP environment, you will have to manually assign the IP address on the printer. Once you obtain a valid IP address from your network administrator, follow the steps below:
1. Ready light should be on.

2. Printer panel display should read IDLE/MAGICOLOR 2300DL.

3. Press the MENU/SELECT button.

4. Next, press the Right Arrow until you see NETWORK.

5. Press MENU/SELECT again.

6. If the IP address has never been assigned (either automatically by DHCP or manually), you should see IP ADDRESS/192.168.1.2 (which is the default IP address printer ships with). If this is a change of a previous assignment, you should see IP ADDRESS/XXX.XXX.XXX (where the X's are the previously assigned/acquired IP address).

7. Press MENU/SELECT.

8. Using the Up Arrow or the Down Arrow, change the first group of numbers in the IP address to the desired value.

9. Press Right Arrow to move to the next group of numbers.

10. Using the Up Arrow or the Down Arrow, change the second group of numbers in the IP address to the desired value.

11. Press Right Arrow to move to the next group of numbers

12. Using the Up Arrow or the Down Arrow, change the third group of numbers in the IP address to the desired value.

13. Press Right Arrow to move to the next group of numbers.

14. Using the Up Arrow or the Down Arrow, change the fourth group of numbers in the IP address to the desired value.

15. Press MENU/SELECT.

If the IP address is not correct, simply repeat the steps 7 through 15 above.

16. Press Up Arrow until you see IDLE/ MAGICOLOR 2300DL.

Also...

When MC2300DL firmware v2.85 is installed on the printer, the IP address menu is not displayed when DHCP is set to on in the network menu.
To set the IP address manually, first set DHCP to off in the network menu.

changed to the correct ip on the actual printer, and it still can't find the printer on the network!!!

you checked the patch lead & also checked for a link light??

try a new patch cable, if still no joy, give konica-minolta or your supplier a call, as sounds a bit like a dodgy NIC card in the printer

cable's are fine and got link lights on both hub and printer's card
hmm if the network is on auto assign ip's as it run's initially through a router and the printer is on it's own ip would this cause conflict? allthough when i've set it to auto assign that don't work..

try patching it directly into a pc (bypass routers etc) and see if you can get it going via that Will rule out if the network is fubar'd etc

Although it sounds like a subnet problem to me

aslong as the printers IP is not conflicting with something else on the network & the subnet is set the same as the rest of the network, the printer should be fine

one of the work comps is connected directly using lpt1 and that works fine, it's just accross the network, but the network is fine all comps work with each other etc.. it's just the bloody printer.

havnt read it all mate, but the ip of the printer should be within the routers static range - ie: routers ip address is 192.168.0.1, printer should be 192.168.0.2 etc. As i said before, subnet mask has to be the same as the router ie: 255.255.255.0 etc
And if it has a gateway option then that is usually the routers ip address

sorry if this hasnt helped much, as ive only had a play on a HP laser jobby, which was plug and play

no, connect a computer directy to the printers network connection via an X-over cable (make sure nothing else is interfacing with it) and have a butchers with that will tell you if the network card is fooked

good idea i'll see if we got just a plain xover cable hangingaround, to test it, think we just got normal cabling though
