I currently run 284mm plain discs, Calibra V6 calipers, GM pads and Goodridge braided hoses. Today I've had the brake fluid bled and replaced with new stuff. Thing is, they STILL feel spongy altough they do brake well when you push hard on the pedal.
I know there has been much disscussion whether or not the above type of set-up is too overpowering, and I'm beginning to agree.
What has anyone else done to stop this spongy feel? I really need some help with this, otherwise I will probably ditch the current set-up and pop on Astra GTE stuff.

v6 brakes will always feel spongy on a corsa cos the master cylinder isnt up to the job

Im running V6 gear up front and never had any problem with the pedal feeling spongy.

re bleed the brake (all 4 corner in RL FR RR FL think thats how it is, look in the manual)
check your pads are not low.
and as Flipmo said the master cyl isent really up for it, this is why when u fit 4 pots then always feel shittie on the petal

All the bleeding has been done properly, and the pads are near-mint.
Is it poosible to put a bigger master cylinder on, and if so, how?

well not really m8, i dont think you can (well not for cheap) as i looked into it for a lad with 4pots, you can have a look into a V6 on but i think thee no good
u need a pedal box and motorsport Master Cy, with means alot of pennys....

It can be done yes. There are spacers u need to buy.
Righty, Eddy, ur the man for this. Look in ur haynes manual. Theres a bolt you can adjust at the brake pedal to adjust the hardness. Loads of people on mig have tried it and it seems to work. I've not had the bottle to start pissing aobut with my brakes yet.
I will say that my rear discs made a BIG difference though!!!
Also, as said, bleeding, pads, discs themselves (although my discs aint gone down at all in 3 years  )
Have a go at the pedal bolt thing, then tell me how u get on as i'd really like to know!!!

Ed, Courtenays fitted my brakes but i've gotta go in soon to pick up some stuff so i'll have a word and see what they suggest.

ive got astra gte callipers with hi-spec 285 discs. just havent tried them yet  oddball or cemesis on mig used to have them and they said they were good

Ive got a dead half inch or so when i put the pedal down but im used to it now.
Not as spongy now that there bed in and blead properly.
Ive got goodridge lines all round.
They are over powering, pulls me front end to the ground as too much braking is done at the front, thats the way i like it though cos fed up of rears locking up and throwing me sideways!
Think it helps having groved disks as you can hear them under heavy breaking as you dont get any feed back through the pedal really.
Im just really carefull with them as i aint got ABS and have always had to be gentle otherwise they lock up, especially in the wet!

Daimo, if your rear disks made a huge difference then you probably have them working too hard, which is a tad dodgy.
On the nova you can adjust the pedal so that the first couple of inches of movement (slack) is taken up, making the pedal feel better.....
I've got V6's on the nova and the pedal feels fine.

There not working too hard at at all. There working spot on. It mad emy pedal feel better and the car deffo stops a lot better.

If the master cylinder isn't up to it, does this mean it can fail or break or something? will it be under more stress or will it be ok long-term? I don't wanna fit V6 brakes only to have then fek up my car!

It wont shag up the master cylinder, just means more fluid has got to be pushed into the calipers.

On the nova there is a bolt on the pedal that adjusts the pedal's position.

Ed, are you running ABS?
Iv'e spoken to Jon at Courtenays and he said that if you are running ABS with the V6 set up then you need to have the system bled using the Tech1 computer so it can be done with the actuator. Apparentley this will get the air out of your ABS system as well as the brake hoses.
If that does not make enough of a difference then you can preload the brake pedal to remove the slack in the linkage.
