how much am i gunna spend on new pads? standard corsa 1.5 TD

How can i tell if mine need changing?

Also i've heard you have to bleed the brakes once you change them.. is that right?

i just checked my front left cos it was squeeling like fook whenever i was braking. so i took the wheel off and looked from the top of the hub and there is less than 1mm left of the pad, OOPS!!

I never did....did them myself cos they were making a grinding noise as the pad had worn down....Just have to pump the brakes before you drive off after as the brake fluid will have drain out a bit give it a pump, test they are working and your away....Dont know if you are ment to bleed them but i never did.

i just payed £10.57 from my local auto parts shop. not bad i say. EBC brakes too

You don't need to bleed, if you are just changing pads you aren't disrupting the flow and so no air can possibly get in so you don't need to bleed em, you will need to pump the pedal a few times as you need to push the piston back in and so it needs to get in place properly.
The only time you need to bleed is if a) the brake fluid reservoir empties, and b) if you change anything to do with the fluid and hoses, i.e. a flexi hose or a caliper

you can usually see how much life is in the pads if you look at the caliper from a funny angle you can just see the pad on the disc. if there is no pad left its time to change. they are a peice of piss to change.
1- off with the wheel the usualy way.
2- off with the caliper retaining spring
3- take out the caliper retaining bolts
4- remove caliper and hang it up somewhere with a peice of string.
5- take the pad out of the caliper and the one from the outsite as well.
6- give it all a spring clean with a wire brush and an old paint brush
7- pop in the new pads (put some copper grease on the back of them to stop them squeeling)
8-do the reverse to put it all back.
9- pump the breaks a couple of times with the engine running

now your ready to go on your merry way. take it easy for the first couple of hundred cos you gota bed in the new pads.

Are the rear drums really hard to do?

Are they likely to need changing less frequently?

yeah they need changing less frequently unless you do a lot of handbreak turns....the break system is biased to the front wheels so they are used a lot more. the rear drums are slightly more difficult to do. but easy when you know how.
