House = £205k. Borrowed = £180k. Think we pay circa £990 per month.

IMO, borrow over the longest possible term with the option to overpay unlimited.

You then choose how you want to pay it back. Important thing is the interest charged, not the total payment.

Correct, we went over 40 years and overpay by £100 a month.

It's not all my parents, I've been working for 7 years now!!! I'm also on a 20 year term as I don't want to be in a mortgage for the rest of my life.

£125,100 loan on a £139,000 property and I'll be repaying £652.45 a month over 35 years. It's not the best deal, but it was really the only one on offer to me. It's a little depressing when you see that I'd have to repay £238,000 if I were to stay on this mortgage for the full 35 years; It's a two year term so I'll change when that's up and hopefully get a better deal once some equity has been built up. It seems fairly common for your first mortgage to be expensive/a bit crappy but it should all be worth it in the end

We owe 192k on both properties currently.

Payment on those is £970 a month. Get £475 rental in off the apartment leaving £495 to pay.
