My wife makes way way more than me. She pays for everything and I spend my money on what I like.

As long as I service her needs three or four time a week she's happy and I'm happy.

It's a pretty good arrangement tbh.

Fairly even, I pay round about 60%, she pays 40%.... thats of what we pop into a joint account monthly (bills, mortgage etc). The rest we keep for ourselves

I earn more, so isnt really unfair.

I earn 60% of the household income, so sounds pretty fair

super geeking it now....

Pre Tax

I put in 28%
She puts in 33%

Post Tax

I pay 45%
She pays 46%

I do grumble that I pay more, but dont fight it. It is fair.... we share the house

Epic posting there rob!

I pay more but I contribute very little in the way if cleaning, cooking, washing up, washing clothes and general household stuff unless I'm asked which doesn't happen often.

Big eye opener this...

Both our wages go in... all the money goes out... fuck all left at the end and hardly any savings. Been married 6 years and together 10... have a 230k house with a 108k mortgage.

Both our wages are now really low because of both childcare and redundancys.

Considered it mate but we've spent a fortune on it since we've been here (6years) and it's an amazing house and just what we need. It's doubtful we will ever move again.

Plus the mortgage is only £530 and anything decent around here is easy £600+ so renting wouldn't save us anything that way. We get by but just have to budget and can't really have/buy anything nice like cars or holidays. We have nice things from when we had money so it's not like we're not lucky that way.

Pretty much this except renting instead of owned
If we want anything we usually just discuss and see if it's affordable

Chances are that when I'm working again the mrs will give up work and stay home with the kids so unlikely anything will change for a good few years

I have done a month budget for all joint costs, then add 10% for prudence, and we contribute 50/50 of that into the joint. My take home is roughly 20% higher than hers.

However all will change as she is going to drop our first in December so it will all change after her maternity pay stops to only me paying for everything as I earn just about enough for her to be a stay at home mum, just.

We pay about 50/50 each. If one is skint, the other pays / gives money.

Mat pay nearly broke us too, had to resort to credit cards to stay afloat and it's put huge pressure on us now. Hate debt but had nowhere else to get money to pay bills. The vultures got us!

Tell me about it Gaz

We ended up selling stuff around the house on eBay just to keep things steady. Running machine... gym equipment. .some of my expensive tools and testers from work. Sold my Octavia VRS and now drive a crappy MK4 Astra.

Spot on, that doesn't just apply to him though, seems to be the case with a lot of people who are getting pregnant first and thinking later.

not sure I'd agree... If you want family you cant put it off forever. If you have to make sacrifices.... thats a price you pay.

We prob couldnt afford to loose Fee's wage at the moment... have kids, and contine racign two cars. Mortgage is too big.

Thats not to say we cant afford a family, and shouldnt have one.

You are in a different league with different problems.

Making a decision over being able to keep both of the race cars is a bit different from struggling to pay the bills.

I'd also question some people's reasons for wanting a family.

Do they have a genuine interest in it, or are they having families because all their mates on Facebook are

If I had to wait till I was in a good financial position before I had kids, I'd be waiting forever. You have your kids, sacrifice your nights out, takeaways etc, fun things, and struggle by. That's life. Even if you're in a good position, it'll still hit you having kids, their expensive little things

Sacrificing nights out and luxuries etc is understandable.
