My very first 'proper' RC car was a Tamiya Sand Scorcher Tony.

It's presently a basket case, in bits, in a box, awaiting a full resto. And has been, for F*UCKING years.

You wouldn't believe and I don't even want to know what i've spent, sourcing parts, on and off, over the years to rebuild it.

It's older than most folk on here and the bits are worth an arm and a leg.

I've still not got quite everything and the new body I bought is now worth so much that it's too valuable to use!

It's so old now and i've been sourcing stuff for so long that Tamiya have now reissued the car (albeit altered) and I have a NIB example I bought about three years ago.

It's not the same though and like you say, i've had the real one SO long now, it's got to be done.

Do they not go a bit brittle over the years? Especially beingplastic from the 80's.

My 1980's hornet is my most used car, seems to be perfectly fine and just keeps on going

As you say Jim, it gets to the point where they are worth more in parts than all together. the USA seems to be a good source of parts but its a pain in the back side getting them shipped.

mind you the likelyhood is that you will have finished building them before j18 is back on the road

That's actually a 90's car. And no they don't tend to sir.

They can be brittle to start with dependant on what material has been chosen but they don't change over time in my experience.

Especially when they're all new and unbuilt in the box still.

Favourite place to run mine is on the beach when the sand is still wet, get it going flat out and you can see the front end trying to lift

Hornet is great for it's simplicity and epic toughness

Yeah, especially when you get raped for import tax.

And yeah mate, deffo on't road before J18

The Sand Scorcher body is a good example of looney tunes prices. I thought i'd paid A LOT for mine when I bought it off ebay about 9 years ago, especially when you consider they were about eighteen quid new originally.

About a year or so ago, one went for over seven hundred and thirty quid!

Hence my lack of enthusiasm for building it, painting it. And then smashing it up and getting it covered in mud.

That's the trouble isn't it Ian.

So many end up as shelf Queens.

I've got loads. Just don't have the heart to run them cos they're too precious.

One of my pals is just in the process of finishing another one and another example of what he and I call 'Ultimate Vagina Repellent'.

It's a Senna McLaren with some personal additions to make it a bit special and a lot more scale.

He'll need a bloody carpetted gymnasium with aircon/heating to run it in!

That said, I do have some bashers i'm not too scared to run, including a nice 6th scale brushless buggy that's a lot of fun.

Imo, it's gotta be new enough and repairable to get run.

25

I think mine must be about 16 Never been restored, have never even rebuilt it since I put it together at 14. I put the condition down to it just being far to big to take anywhere when I was a kid!

Get some pics up

As per your request sir

She's not much to look at, at the mo, as she's currently mid resto/refurb, plus I took those in the loft on my phone.

Here's some others of a couple more of mine and some of one of my pal's too.

Sorry it took so long but I haven't been Prem for yonks and it took me ages to remember how to post images.

Edit: image smallness issue solved

I'm looking for something to drift. Preferably cheap. Maybe second hand.

Guy at work just got a maverick drifter for £105 is prefer a self build if I'm going for a new one.

Any recommendations.

Looking forward to the better weather so the garden dries off and I can get one of mine up and running again this year.

Was tempted to pull one out the loft today but while everywhere is water logged it's a bit pointless

I seem to of broken a drive shaft axle, Dunno when this happened, but the other side is seized up due to a dodgy wheel bearing.
