Did some more today, originally only set out to take the doorcards off so I can get to the sound deadening and get an idea on how to remove the rear loom but it went a bit further than planned
Steve style shot to remove seat belts
The rear shelf was only removed to get to the seat belts it's back on now. There is alot of loom going off to various places so it is a fair amount of work but just time more than anything and removing bits to get to it all. When it goes in for paint I will be removing as much as possible myself apart from the obvious bits like removing battery and related wiring so once in the bodyshop it leaves a minimal amount to remove thus keeping cost down.
Getting there slowly.
Should be going into Nickson Motorsport for the cage next week or the week after, can't wait for that!

No way The car is still being kept fairly normal, sound system etc which is what the rear shelf is for.

To be honest though people look for M3's with this kind of stuff done to them so I know I can sell it as it is, when I bought it I had people messaging me asking if I wanted to sell it!

Exactly, and you can't get in the back, so what's the point of keeping weight in there
It is all reversable. I contemplated grinding seat mounting points etc off so the back looks smoother but it's just alot more work and there's more weight that can be lost if I wanted to take the extreme weight loss route but all this is just about taking stuff out that easy to remove.

In terms of resale value I think the E46 M3 is at a stage were people amy buy them for track use etc so I do not see this being an issue should Graham need to sell on

I think if you do a track car properly, using premium hardware, then i think it can add a small amount of value to the car to the right market
however half arsed attempts, eg removing a spare wheel and the back seats and leaving it at that i think will put everyone off.
If you are going down this route i think its best to go all out

I just think that these cars are meant for travelling in pure comfort with all the nice heated leather and extras and then every now and then you can abuse it on a track.
I'm not saying what graham has done is wrong as its his car and he can do as he wants lol, its just something I wouldn't have done with this type of car. I would have spend the money on something like an Evo 8/9 which ain't really known for its nice interiors and stripped that out.
Like I say tho hats off to him for doing it.

Like Steve says I think the fact I'm doing/getting it done properly will possibly add value to certain buyers. With the price of these now people are looking at them more as track cars. Like I've said though Eck with not being able to get in the back seats its pointless putting them in, it's still a very comfortable car, dropped it off at Nickson Motorsport yesterday which was a 75 mile drive & was fine. Still got the HK sounds and once they're blasting you wouldn't know any different tbh. I personally love the sound of the thing inside when going for it & others have all said the same, but it is all personal preference if we did the same things it would be boring. I agree with you in the sense of keeping creature comforts, no amount of weight saving is worth losing the sounds/doorcards/sat nav/airbags etc on a car that's still used daily IMO.
Chris it's just motorway driving not exactly exciting :-)
Thanks peeps. Got a few ideas but it all takes time. Got a £240 quote to replace the 3 diff seals so that wasn't expected :-(
