You maybe dont remember but I went to Optical Express back in March to see if I was suitable. Cut a long story short I was but they wanted to wait 6 months for my eyes to stabilise first.

6 months came and gone but thought I'd try Ultralase as they are meant to have the highest turn away rate and best results so if they said no I wasn't going to get it done by anyone.

Went to their Manchester clinic on Wednesday to have all the checks done and I'm having the surgery done with Ultralase on the 5th of October.

Because my prescription is so bad they recommended I go to their Maidstone clinic to have the surgery done as the guy there specialises in prescriptions as bad as mine. So they are paying for me & my Mum to go down on the train and put us up in a hotel for the night after the surgery too Bit of a trek but you want the best for your eyes and they've organised the travel etc. so no need to worry about that!

So far cant recommend them enough... they are a little more expensive than Optical Express but the premises and staff at Ultralase are of a much higher standard and they did a lot more tests than OE did aswell. The procedure they use is better than OE's aswell.

For the guys that know the different procedures: I'm having Lasik Ultra Elite

Best thing i've EVER done mate

Good luck but you won't need it mate.

Couple of things i'll make you aware of that they fail to mention....

Make sure you get the last appointment of the night..i had mine at 6.30.Get some VERY good sunglasses (ie100% UV ones) and get somone to drive you straight home! Have a load of water ready and some decent painkillers then hit the sack for the night..you will be fucked as although you won't be in major pain it wears you out big time...you have to wear the plastic things on yours eyes and these are a bit of a pain..after a few nights i started to rip mine off in my sleep..fine after a few days though.

When you wake up the next day don't plan anything..you won't be able to read..watch the TV/play on the X bax etc.Just listen to music and maybe get some mates around and just chat and chill.

Even 6 months on my vision is getting even better but even after about 3 or 4 days it was SO much better. You won't see the best effects until about 3 months on but it's worth it.

Oh and because i work in shitty environments i took 4 days work but i wish i'd have has 7-10 days.

Any more Q's just message me mate

Yep I'm having everything you can have, the full wammy.

My appointment is 4:55pm, they reckoned surgery would happen about hour after that so it shouldn't be too light outside by the time I'm leaving. Stopping in the hotel that night then back to the clinic in the morning for my check up. Then train journey back home.

I've only taken 2 days off work but mine is an office based job so not a dusty environment. Hopefully will be ok.

I'm looking forward to it and they have made me feel a lot more comfortable about it all than Optical Express did. Still cant help feeling slightly nervous though!

Id like to get this done, do you need reading glasses or anything after it? Or is it all perfect afterwards?

£1995 per eye for what I'm having. When you say your eyes are fucked how fucked are they? Prescription wise?

Re: reading glasses, might still need them when you get in to your 40s but they mentioned they are looking into treatments at the moment to delay the need for reading glasses so I guess by the time I'm getting to that age they might have a cure for it

thanks mate.

I can't see road signs and the like without the glasses on.

I suppose the cost is fairly minimal in comparison to actually being able to function day-to-day without the gigs.

thanks hope it goes well

Yeah they've got £300 off the ultra elite at the moment. Dont know how long that offer will be on for! Also got 0% finance over 2 years with no payments till september next year. I'm just going to pay it off in one go next September though as already have the cash for it. May aswell have the money sat in my bank rather than theirs until then!

Yes when you think about the cost over the next however many years its not much really.

You'd have to see what they say, depends what your job actually involves.

The thing with biking and footballing is that you sweat alot on your forehead then it might go in your eye and you could end up with an infection as your eyes wont have healed properly in the first few weeks. Or get an elbow in your face.

Mate I hope you don't use a computer in work otherwise your screwed! No way could I even look at any type of screen for at least 2 days never mind work on one.Mind you we have a 50" LCD and sit quite close to it.Your eyes are MEGA sensitive and don't adjust right for a while after the op.

Not trying to put you off here but I was one of the most successful cases the Chester branch of Ultralase have had, both in healing fast and results and Ultralase no matter how nice they are don't tell you everything.

Probably money well spent. My glasses fell apart after 8 months. I don't wear them that often, so I took them back and asked them to repair them. They told me they were out of warranty and the only thing I could do was buy new ones

Only about 6/7 days mate.Anytime before that they just ached after about 10 mins but got better day by day.

Our wedding photographer had his done and he was still bad 4 weeks later with the whole screen issue..bearing in mind he works on 2 big screens and has to sort mega close ups etc etc.

Sorry if my posts sound a bit harsh mate but i'm just telling you how it is

As nice as Ultralase are they will tell you all the things you wanna hear but not much you don't.Take a week off and just chill..FFS it's your only set of eyes and your spending 4K on them (like me) so take it really seriously.

i want this done as i wear contacts and due to shift work i end up having them in my eyes for anything up to 24 hours which isn't good at all. my eyes feel fucked because i can't give them enough rest due to work (overtime on weekends so don't get a rest).

wouldn't wanna pay 4k though. my eyes are -2.50 in both eyes.

Can't you get those ones you wear for 2 weeks Ben? Or have I slightly misunderstood what two week contact lenses are
