I'm moist at the thought
Whilst white would look superb, does the thought of jacking the car up to clean underneath it appeal to you? Otherwise a nice coat of black will suffice.

i know what you saying but jacking car up isn't so much of a problem because i work in a dealership (ramps  ) so it will probably be white and if i get bored of it i just won't clean it anymore  i won't be using the car everyday either and it will stay in the garage from now on since the "keying"  but i don't want it just to be clean, i will still drive it hard and on track

Update time as usual, bit of a late one and a large one as i never had chance to do it over the weekend like a normally do  anyways on to the pictures like normal
Earlier in the thread i tried the malt vinegar trick, which worked a treat on parts that weren't painted here the bits i did fresh out the vinegar after one night
Then i took the core plugs out of the block
Then i cracked on building the head up as its sat on the kitchen side 
Fitted new steam seals, valves already been lapped in fitted valves and hva's
Then i "bagged" the front end ready for the work to begin underneath 
Then my new -31 actuator came in the week from "Scooby"
Then i did more bits with the spray gun and picked a few bits up from vaux
Then I removed fuel tank and rear beam
I have taken the carbon canister off, so i no longer need the breather that goes back past the fuel tank and up to the filler neck, what have people done here? just block the connection on the filler neck or leave it venting to atmosphere?

Then i focused on underneath
First to degrease and remove all dirt and get rid of any rust
50/50
More cleaning
Then i removed all the rust and then etched, seam sealed, primed and stone chipped
left that to dry! So i cracked on with the engine
I already cleaned the block earlier in the week and painted it
Fitted new core plugs
Then i fitted the crank with new glyco bearings
Then I connected the conrods and pistons
Thats all for now

so do you not need to run the carbon canister on a LET ?
excellent job of the cleaning n painting i hate doing things under the car as its a pain in the arse n everything goes in ur face n eyes haha. ive just done my front end this week but need to do the underneath soon just wondering where u got ur seam sealer from do they sell it at halfords?

not mains, was talking to Steve Milton about it, no real need! I got ARP Head studs, conrod bolts and flywheel bolts tho

Those rods will have ARP bolts yes.

Cheers, you don't need to run a carbon canister on a XE either its there for emission regulations when the vehicles were produced to meet EU regulations
Cheers, yer i don't really like doing it i was covered it shit I used "silicone remover" to clean underneath first and the stone chip i got from a bodyshop suppliers and i used a stone chip gun, the spray cans are shit IMO, if your going to do it do it properly! Halfords will probably only sell spray cans at a rip off, i payed 5.99 a bottle of stone chip, i used 5 bottle in total to do engine bay and underneath and rear arches although if its over paintable like what i used the finish is flat not gloss but that isn't a problem as i still have to spray underneath yet

Good progress!
With the breather, you want to keep it somewhere high so it dont leak, and also in some place that should you roll the car, it dont leak.
Your need to keep the one on the filler neck though, else you wont get more than 20p of fuel in at a time.

Cheers, can't i just block it off as it only went to the carbon canister? it still has the breather from the tank to the filler neck aswell as the filler pipe, so fueling it won't be a problem!

Had some more time over last 2 days to crack on with monty again, pictures as normal
First off i sprayed the underside and rear arches as the stone chip finish was matte finish!
Then i sprayed the gearbox and inlet manifold but decided I chose the wrong colour and it looked like it was still primer Shame as the finish was nice but it was annoying me
Back to the paint suppliers and I then chose this colour which i'm really happy with
Then I took all the sheet off
Then time to crack on with the engine
First off I fitted the pistons/conrods
Then ARP Studs with Cometec 1.3 head gasket
Head all torqued up and spare rocker cover fitted to stop shit getting on the engine
Thats all for today, I'll carry on from where I left off tomorrow
