Managed to get the Pioneer on the wall this evening.

Unfortunately, I forgot the camera! I got some pics on my iPhone but they really don't do it justice. I'll try and get some pics tomorrow.

It's absolutely massive compared to the room size. We decided to placed it 70cm from the floor but it looks very low. I think it's about right, though.

What height does everyone suggest for a 60"?

Make sure you check back tomorrow!

As I mentioned yesterday -- we managed to get the Pioneer on the wall:

Now we're (well, I'm) having 2nd thoughts about the AV rack going where it currently is. I think it looks wrong going up 1/4 of the panel being less than an inch from the side. I'd prefer the devices to be hidden completely in the cupboard but my step-dad wants to be able to see the amp's display as well as being able to access to CD player and PS3 regally, so unfortunately that's not an option.

My next suggestion was to move it up so it's directly parallel with the panel. Bare in mind that the glass that will be on the front of the AV rack is dark tinted so I think it'd go really nicely with the panel. The dark tinted glass we had cut is a few inches smaller than the height of the Pioneer so that'd mean another panel of glass, but I personally think it'd be worth it. I'd like it to be exactly the same height.

I don't think he's too keen on the idea so maybe you guys could help me out and write a few words to convince him...

Looking good mate, what height is your TV at? Looks a little low in the photos, how far away will you be sitting from it?

I think the rack looks best on the floor bud, i dont think it would 'work' floating in mid-air. I agree it would look better spaced further away from the TV though

Have you though about a wide, built in shelf to go under the TV to house the kit, looks like you'd have ample space with that stud wall. - Just an idea

Here is one of our installs we have done for a client

The panel is 700mm from the floor (perfect height IMO). It's silly having it high as you have to look up at it. If you're slouching on your sofa that is the perfect height.

Not keen on the AV gear in a hole like that. Trying to hide it as much as possible... Cheers for the input, though.

All depends on your preference at the end of the day mate.
Are you recessing the screen on the wall or just surface mounting it?

Recessing it so only 0.5m is showing.

You can see in my last picture where the 0.5mm frame begins.

If you put the amp unit parallel to the screen, wouldn't the electrics of the various bits interfere with the screen a bit? (I honestly don't have a clue, but just suggesting?)

Also if you had a glass tinted unit on that side of the screen, i'd put one on the other side as well to symmetry. Could have DVD/Blu-ray rack or something?

Amazing. I love the fact your building the room around the TV and speakers etc. Should look when finished.

Most people decorate and then buy the furnishings

Luckily my mum is pretty "cool" -- most wives wouldn't stand for it... There's going to be absolutely nothing in the living room other than AV gear.

Got a major part (and probably the hardest part of the entire build) done today.

The TV is properly sunk into the wall, and there's only 0.5m of the panel on display. The actual panel itself is level with the wall:

Finished up by giving the MDF a coat of primer:

Your Step Dad really does know what he's doing, really impressive with such a small amount showing. I'll have to come see it again sometime.

It was the first attempt too. It's a lot more trickier than it looks too -- you gotta calculate the depth to be absolutely exact. Not easy when paint makes it that tiny bit thicker...

We can do the little bits now (touching up the plastering, painting the walls, spraying the AV rack, etc). I can't wait...

PS3 is due to arrive Wednesday.

Still looking for a new carpet and a new sofa.

They go through the mounts on the panel so it can't fall forwards. It secures the panel to the wall.

The build is not going to change much for the next few weeks so we got some gear down to have a play.
