Thursday 6th November

Indeed, as i have got my phone back, i was able to take some photos today.

I only got a small amount of work done as i just could not focus on what i had to do...dont know why. So i did a couple of things, took some photo's and then left it for the day.

So...some pics of what i have done.

Battery tray behind seat:

And here is a couple of pictures of the exhaust job. Seems to be superb, looks like it will certainly do the job!

I forgot to get a picture of how the tailpipe sits, but will try and remember to get one tomorrow. It's a sedate as you like...lil black tailpipe that sits snugly against the bumper.

And then today's jobs. The bottom pulley was taken off, cleaned and then put back on and checked for tightness. Seemed ok, but i have to see it running to check.

And then i put the roose tophose on that arrived today from LMF.

So, after that i decided i wasnt gonna make progress today, and decided it best to leave it. So i took some photos, parked it and that was it.

Also have a great picture of the engine, but it wont upload it as its too big

so, until next time...

Weekend - 8th & 9th November

Well, having not been on since Friday, i have a bit of an update.

Firstly, it is now moving about under its own power. I am moving it from where it is parked, and about 10ft to the garage front and then back to the parking after work is done. not far and is basicly a parallel park, but even so, i am extremely pleased.

So, the jobs that have been done!...

Well, on Friday i managed to get a few minor jobs on the go, i sorted the throttle cable out, so the pedal now works, which is a relief. Feels great, not much movement at all, about an inch, but even at the moment it's responsive.
I also managed an oil and filter change as i am trying to get rid of some water that has accumilated in the sump whilst being sat.

To be honest, that was all i can remember doing that day. I had a pretty non-event day as am now just waiting to have it set-up.

Saturday was a little more productive. I moved it under its own power, which was a major achievement...and am extremely pleased.
I also managed to link up the rev-gauge. Although it flickers around catchin flies now and again, it appears to be pretty right.

The rest was tidying up and just sorting. I linked the fuel pump into a switched live so it runs on the ignition, and installed my cigarette lighter multiplug. As i will be having 2 gauges where the ashtray should be, i decided to install a switched 4 port multi-socket. For phone charger, sat nav etc.
As well as this, i sealed the exhaust system, which was blowing from...well everywhere! And i also drained the oil again, as i had left it to run for 5 or so minutes and so it was starting to pick up all the rubbish from when it was stood.

Sunday was a slow day. The weather was crap and am now just looking for things. I put split pins in the hub nuts and worried more about various things. But spent most of the day watchin Adam doing what he could on his shell. Like i say though, shame the weather was awful.

Ah well, it's parked up now, just awaiting the set-up, then an MOT and then...i will Tax it and swap over the insurance.

Quick update...

got some parts from vauxhall yesterday.

Grommet for bulkhead, some bottom pulley bolts and some dipstick tube bolts.

The car has also been booked in at a highly reputed garage in the local area to have the timing and carbs set up on the rollers, and they are also giving me the graphs too...so i know what it's putting out. 2nd December it'll be...with 2 hours on the rollers.

Happy days!

AB Garages in Hawarden. They speicalise in tuning the likes of Mk2 excorts and the sort of cars we see at New Brighton. They were in fast ford a few months back and the guy i got the engine from who does loads of rallying told me to go there.

£60-80 for 2 hours of set-up on the rollers. And they know what they're doing!

popped down today, to have a look at the garage.

Doesnt look like much from the outside, but there are 2 guys who really know what they are on about and have got various engines sat around looking shiney! V6, V8 and what looked like a big 4-cyl.

Hoping they can do a good job as they specialise in the carb set-up!

Well, as i wont get another chance to get onto the net before it goes off to the specialist...i will have to post now.

Booked in for first thing Tuesday morning for a set-up on the rollers, i will hopefully be updating you with power figures and a smooth running car!

That's if it all goes smoothly and nothing bad is found...which is what i've started thinking about tbh... excitement has turned to some worry.

Ah well...until the next HUGE update...

Tuesday 2nd December

Well, today it spent about 3.5 hours in the hands of a guy who really knew what he was doing. He sorted the timing on both the cam and the ignition and managed to get it all running smoothly.

The carbs have all been balanced and the fuelling is spot on.

There was a bit of a suprise on the power side though...

Now, it was a 130bhp (@fly) engine standard, but with all the work the engine has had done on it, it was rolled at 168bhp at the wheels running injection in 2000ish. So...i was expecting to certainly see that 130bhp figure, with 150 the target.

However, this was not to be the case, and it would not pass over 87 bhp at the wheels.

Although we had no idea at first...after a few things were tried, and the figure stayed the same...it was decided that the engine internals were to blame. Due to the fact it has been stood since 2002 shortly following a rebuild, all the parts have done barely 2k, and have then stood for 6 years. So, they simply need to bed themselves in. Due to the fact that the parts are uprated, they take time to settle, and after 2 or so months, the whole thing will have free'd up.

So the figures coming off the graph i got were:

36-72 mph (2500 - 6000 RPM)
3rd Gear

87 bhp, 235 lb/ft torque @ wheels.

I drove it up and down their little tarmac road, and oh my god it shifts!...and sounds an absolute fucking.... Other good news is that it all sounds spot on. No knocks, taps or pinking. Gearbox seemed ok and everything was in running smoothly

so, all that is left now is to sort a small sump leak and get some MOT things sorted.

Happy days.....so damn close now!
