The bt guys have been briefed not to even bother attending any calls for houses with virgin adsl as its virgins lack of bandwidth and nothing to do with the line.

One of the worst providers out.

Don't expect to be able to browse the net faster than 56k.

Good Job they did, when I first got ADSL from BT. They offered an engineer visit to come to you and set it all up.... for wait for it....

£250

To plug in a few filters, plug in the adsl modem, install the drivers and setup the connection software with the details already sent in a letter.

Virgin ADSL is terrible across the board, it's unfortunately not an isolated problem.

The speeds are a disgrace 99% of the time then theres the odd time at 2am I can get 700k dl's which shows they can do it when they provide the bandwidth.

I'm off as soon as my contract is up.

I am not kidding when I say it is as bad for the majority of the time.
I originally recommened it to a mate, different exchange, different area etc and it was equally as bad, he has now left them.

Well known problem.

have you contacted virgin about this?

recieved the email. interesting paragraph

* Why do not I receive my fastest line speed as soon as my account is
activated?

You will notice that when your account is activated, the line speed will
slowly creep up to the maximum speed your phone line can handle. This can
take a few hours. It will then fluctuate for about 10 days whilst we test
your line to work out the maximum speed your phone line can handle whilst
still providing a reliable service. Find out more on our website:
http://www.virgin.net/helpme/broadband/faq/fluctuate.html.

I know how RADSL works, my connection has been active since april, I am less than 1 mile from the exchange and my line synchs at 8meg and achieves 8 meg speeds when it can.

Virgin do not have the bandwidth between their network and the internet, this is whats causing the problems.

Edit to say contactin virgin is a waste of time, indian call centers and usual guff.
If you get far enough for them to blame it on a line the BT engineers have been told not to attend.

They totally do my tats in.. In the last few weeks ive had long periods of interweb downtime, which in turn makes the on demand pack it in..Been on the phone many a time and been told, "there is a problem in your area" NAE SHIT. Not amused with them at all.

so is their cable service good then? cos i want their TV service and broadband and phone down the cable, im fed up with paying £36 a month for BT "8 meg" service and getting bad speeds at peaktimes and no more than 450k at non-peak times (if I'm lucky)

Yeah their cable service is good. We used to be subscribed to the 10meg cable service and were getting near to that all times of the day.
After moving to an non cable area and getting virgin adsl, the internet speed between 4-12 in the evening is back to dial up rates
