also, someone mentioned a loss of low down torque by removing the pipe. look at the graphs, ther is no loss at all.

the thing about mantzels losing low down torque is also a myth, as I have proven on the dyno many times.

I've got a mantzel replica on at the moment - currently my air filter (knN) is bolted directly onto the tb as i've not had time to get an intake pipe, do you think it would be worth trying a sock filter on there instead?

wont gain anything from that mate.

the reason a sock filter has been used in dave method is that it is the smallest and easiest filter to use on the back of the engine bay where the throttle body is originally mounted is a sock filter

check out demon tweeks motorsport for a top price, but i think rally design may do them as well, and Dave obviously does them.

the air flow sensor measures all the time robin and if you remove it or whatever the car will overfuel, causing damage to certain components over longer periods of time, the cat being one
it may also throw the eml, and in some cases cause the car to go into limp mode

It's not an air flow sensor steve, it's an inlet air temperature sensor.

It tells the engine when it's cold and it needs more fuel to start.

Like I say, I drove mine with it out of the inlet pipe for ages before doing my 1.6 conversion, it was fine, no EML, no poor running, no overfuelling, nothing, as it's not an AFM.
