Car has started running alot hotter than usual, and when sitting at 60 the gauge will rise to 100 and continue to rise and this is with the fans on 4. At first I thought it was the thermostat but I thought the fast im going, the more air is getting into the engine

If i leave the car idling it takes a while for the gauge to rise

Could it be a sensor for the gauge or anything else other than the thermostat? Anyone experinced anything similar?

air lock on the coolent system?

This would cause the gauge to rapidly rise

When the gauge hits 100 the fan doesnt kick in, and iv opened the bonnet when the gauge is at 100 and the engine doesnt seem to be at 100. Iv had the bonnet open before at 100 and youy could tell straight away it was hot

If there was an air lock and the gauge was at 100 would the fan still kick in? Or is the gauge incorrect

I was thinking maybe it was something to do with a sensor, and the fast the engine is going the more voltage is being created and the higher the gauge will go?

thermostat is possible.

You are getting more air through the radiator the faster your going but thats no help if the water isnt circulating through the rad.

Check stat and water pump
