If you can get the air flow sorted on an ecotec engine they can usually perform as well as non ecotec's

Great engine IMO
Evenly as massively restricted as they are.
Huge potential.

Best engine ive had so far, and ive had a few 8v's, and various states of tune(t40s etc etc)

it doesnt 'fuck shit up' it gives the extra bhp that the EGR restricts. fuel consumption is increased yes. u have to sacrifice though dont ya? economy or power

The C16XE is an ECOTEC engine anyway, people seem to forget that.

I wouldn't call them unreliable, at least, not moreso than any other engine.

On the internet, every engine is unreliable as people only say something when they've had a bad experience with one, like with buying from a mail order company, no-one ever says "yeah, they were fantastic"

They're only underpowered as they're restricted heavily, much the same as Ford's Sigma, Renaults 1.6 16v is cack, it's only the PSA one which is any good, oh, and the Honda B16, but that's obviously the case

I think they're great, I don't know of another 1.6 engine which can give you a reliable 8500rpm, 190bhp and all on standard bottom end internals (other than Honda ones) That to me says it's a good engine

11000 miles driven HARD all the time.

Mine lasted 5 months with no water in it FFS It only stopped working because we took the head off and didn't bother fixing it after.
