You started out saying that the rear bits won't make a difference, you're still saying that.

1. it makes a big difference to how the car feels
2. it saves a lot of weight
3. it handles far better stripped out and the correct poundage springs in. (needs a low poundage spring or the back end goes a bit light and tends to be skittish.

FFS Robin, it will make a slight difference, BUT the feeling of going alot faster is an illusion due to the noise etc.

and as far as the exact weight it saves, I weighed it once, the tar matting stuff on the boot floor alone was about 10kg, spare wheel is about 14kg, rear bench is 16kg, seatbelt mounts are 2kg....

Do you mean fully stripped? If yes then i agree, Robin thinks that a rear benk, bit of plastic and a wheel weighs over 40kg, but in reallity stripping the rear of a road car won't make it quick enough for it to feel quicker.

Ok, that's your opinion.

I know for a fact that mine was NOTICEABLY quicker and better round corners, even with just the back end stripped, which is why I went the whole hog.

it saves about 7-8 stone in total. that makes a big enough difference. Have you ever driven a corsa, then stripped it ouit and re driven it once done?

Where did I say the bench, plastic and wheel is 40k?

I said all the back bits;

Seat bench
Seat back
3 seat belt clips
Lap belt
Rear carpet
Spare wheel
Jack
Wheel brace
Screwdriver
Rear latch trim
Left side panel (which contains a speaker, seatbelt, boot light)
Right side panel (which contains a speaker and seatbelt)
C pillar trim from each side, which includes the seat belt mount
Both rear cards

That's the back half. There's a lot of weight there, and that's not even hardcore stripping, that's stuff you can get out with a screwdriver and half an hour.

its well worth noting that you need to fit a lower poundage spring on the rear to get the full benefits of it being stripped.

Random thought: As a full (not the split type) rear bench is held in place by 2 mounting points either side of the car, with it up, it's acting as a rear brace to stiffen the rear of the car up. Take it out and the handling should theoretically be worse
