How the fuck does the weight of a rear bench and a few bits of plastic equate to 2 bags of cement ot 3 people! It's probably 20kg max.

You haven't proved anything, show to me lap times with full interior and lap times with rear seats and some trim removed if you really want to prove me wrong.

Bout 20kg. The reason why we both said add weight was to demonstrate that weight on the back axle does effect handling.

Well over 20 kilos id say! Just the rear stripped makes a massive difference, the cornering handling was affected largely. You can tell you difference with one passenger in the car, id say everything I took out my car weighed about the same. The rear bench is actually quite heavy and when you add everything up it is actually alot. Cupra Steve have you ever stripped your car out and compared it?

I don't doubt that excessive weight affects performance in every way and i'm not saying losing a few kg's won't make a difference, what i'm saying is it won't be a noticable difference! 20kg is like have a 1/4 of a human! Not being funny 1 passenger in any of the cars i have had haven't made alot of difference!

Me and my brother had a 1.6 mk4 escort which he had done quite a bit too, we stripped everything out of it and it was noticeable, but it only had clocks, pedal, steering wheel, 2 seats and harnesses.

It's more like 40kg.

40kg extra in the back of a car will mean it doesn't go round corners as well.

My 40kg is a conservative estimate too, I'd be surprised if it was that little, hence the "2 bags of cement" analogy.

Not this one, it's permanently slow.

I did in my yellow car though, it was slower and less chuckable.

I definately feel it in mine, I dont know why though but people say its alot more noticeable in the 8vs. Paul J said the same about his GTI though I think.

TBH weight distribution has as much if not a bigger part in handling then weight. Taking out weight from the rear without doing so to the rest of the car will affect handling in the ways Butler describes, thats why redtop corsa's don't go round corners

You had a 106 gti didn't you?

I find just 1 passenger makes my car feel a hell of a lot slower.

I've done 1/4 mile with and without rear stripped and it definately made a difference. maybe only 0.3-0.5 secs (don't sound a lot)...

but on 1/4 mile 0.5 secs is a long time! (i.e. at least a few car lengths ahead of the other car!)
