Well garden has been in a bit of a state since we moved in so made a start on it, measured out where i wanted the new lawn to come to as the existing grass isn't that good and all humpy bumpy and full of stones So i got the old spade out and started digging:

Plan is to have a drive down the side of the house, where the blue bag is, its going to be two rows of paving slaps with chippings in between (brother has a load of slabs can have for free) and then i will fill the bit between the new lawn and the drive with gravel aswell as there is a drain there which we cant cover up.

Almost done, but had to go and get a garden sieve as the soil was full of rocks, got two bin bags full from this small patch

Lawn is mostly layed now with turf, but was about a foot to short so will have to get another roll tomorrow then i'll post pics. I've used seed before and it never takes well for me. For this i added a bag of topsoil and preturf fertilizer so the new turf should be alrite as long as i keep it well watered.

Costs:
Turf: £2.50 per square yard. Used 8 of these but need to get another tomorrow so will be 9 = £22.50
Fertilizer: £3.50 a tub, supposed to cover quite a few square meters but i just whacked it all down, may aswell use it up and get it growing nice = £3.50
Topsoil: 35 kg bag was £3.50, sprinkled over top of existing soil as it was quite dry and didn't look that good.

So cost £29.50 in total, not too bad, think it is around 9 feet squared?

Will update with pics of turf tomorrow and pics of drive progress when I start that in around a month or so

Tom

i find with turf to get it goin quicker (growing)

water once in the morn (as early as poss) and then again late at night

then leave it for two days so the roots look for the water instead of being constantly fed, the roots will establish quicker and the grass will grow quicker and need less water

Update:
Put some paving stones down and some chippings inbetween going down the side of the house, and dug out a section by the drain to fill that with chippings too. Now got to put some weed fabric down and fill around the drain with chippings, and stsrt to level off the big pile of stuff dug out from where we put drive
