following from my other post about the coolant,
Exhaust fumes are leaking into my coolant, when the coolant cap is off you can see it smoking and it smells just like an exhaust but worse, the preasure builds up when top is on, exhaust gets damp and some times has a little puddle of water sitting in the pipe..
Pretty obvious its my head gasket, the engine still runs sweet with over 111k miles on the clock, the timing belt kit and water pump was done at 89k so they are ok.
my girlfriend wants me to get it fixed and shes going to pay for it. i just want to sell the car cheap and give her her money back what she paid for it, but she isnt having none of it.
What exatly is needed to fix this and how much are ALL of the parts needed.
i have a choice of 2 people to fix this, a mates dad who will charge half the price a garage would charge, and one free but probably wont have the time and is already helping me out with my GSI.
its a 1.4 16v sport n reg 1996
Thanks and any comments and help appreciated

new head gasket, engine oil, oil filter, coolant, new head bolts or use the original ones, roughly about 4 or 5 hours labour time.

no bother. not to sure about prices though. try local motorfactors as you will probably see a big difference in price between them and official vaux parts

This seems cheap enough, is it the right one for my engine though?
and will i need to get my head skimmed?

Try Autovaux for a head gasket set. It includes all the parts you'll need including the head bolts.

from my local motorfactors i got quoted £30 for everything needed to do a headgasket!inc.bolts!then add on oil,oil filter and coolant, would prob come to about £50 - £60.my local garage skims the head for £30 so £90 plus your labour.

Fit doing proberly (what we would at our garage, but would be £1000+)
headgasket kit, head bolts
cambelt kit, water pump
oil + filter
sparks, antifreeze
and the id get the head skimmed too,
looking at £400-500 for a small garage depending on labour rates and what parts they use, is 10hrs labour on vauxhall TIS
