everytime i start the car up i can hear water flowing behind the headunit or around that kind of area.

Its always on start up and normaly does it when the engines cold.

My car also overheated last sunday.

The oil cap also shows the "cum" like stuff resembling air in the oil.

Obviously its something to do with the heater, since its those pipes that go around the area i can hear it.

I can feel no water around the inside of the car.

The system seems to hold its pressure when left alone, but the water is going slowly although very slowly.

i checked the dip stick which seems to be abit high

so could the water be leaking into the oi someway, and the noise i can hear is the water filling up the pipes again? as i say its not using a lot of water at the moment.

but i had to put three bottles of water in when it overheated and dont know why it all went at once!!

plz help

It sounds like your head gasket is going mate,I have a very mild case of whats happening to you, but have lost minimal water, and only ever reaches 100 degrees c. ive noticed it runs a bit hotter when theres less water. I only seem to hear the gargling on very cold mornings. Im gonna get mine pressure tested soon, although I know it is pressurizing well.
Seems to be a commom problem with the ecotec models

head gasket. No doubt. The "mayo" substance is actually an oil+water mixture.

Borrow a few hundred and get the conversion done rather than the head gasket.

Otherwise, get the head gasket done, but at the same time, get a new cam, skimmed head, polished up....the lot

Those 1.4 8v MPis respond very well to head work, and u get to keep low insurance

well i'm paying my car off a week today so havnt actually started saving yet but wont take long to save as my outgoings are just over a hundred quid per month

got to do the head gasket now.

am going to get a head gasket and bolts after lunch as i will do it tomorro.

looked through haynes and looks relatively easy just want to run some things by...

1. it is actually the head thats skimmed and not the block??

2. if i dont get it skimmed can i leave the input manifold on??

took me about 7-8 hours to do it although it got dark towards the end and made it hard

got confused about the timings and couldnt get the camshaft sporcket on although did it in the end.

bought the gasket for 6 quid and the bolts for 11.50

didnt skim the head

only thing is didnt get exhaust gasket and now cant drive it untill monday when i can get the damn things - oops!!

had smoke coming out the engine bay so thought it was best not to drive it!

another thing is i didnt take the input manifold off which i think made it harder as was cleaning down the head while pushing the input manifold out of the way so was a bit of a bodge

will see how it goes in the next few months
