quote: took me about 7-8 hours to do it although it got dark towards the end and made it hard :( got confused about the timings and couldnt get the camshaft sporcket on although did it in the end. bought the gasket for 6 quid and the bolts for 11.50 didnt skim the head :o only thing is didnt get exhaust gasket and now cant drive it untill monday when i can get the damn things - oops!! had smoke coming out the engine bay so thought it was best not to drive it! another thing is i didnt take the input manifold off which i think made it harder as was cleaning down the head while pushing the input manifold out of the way so was a bit of a bodge  will see how it goes in the next few months :o

head can be skimmed with valves and manifold on. I know this as my mate has an engine reconditioning workshop

I have read you can leave the input manifold on since its 8v. I plan to do my gaskets next week so let me know how long it takes if your doing it yourself :)

head gasket. No doubt. The "mayo" substance is actually an oil+water mixture.
