Went for a drive today and when i went to pull off it seems to hesitate badly then pick up every time i pull away or change gear and when approaching a roundabout it cut out completely but started 1st time. Any ideas what this may be?
Cos of the cold weather and not warmed up?!

have you let it warmed up then tried it? The oil temp takes about 5-10 minutes of 1-3k rpm driving to get to a nice raggable temp

hesitation is nothing to do with oil temp.
Have you check the leads? May have water in them? i.e does it sound like its not firing on all 4 when cold?
Clean AFM, TB, New Plugs would be my first place to look. Then sensors.

My 12v does this - when I idle for a while, then pull off it's really slow then the 'power' picks up. Pretty scary at roundabouts I tell thee.

Yea it's wierd, i get this as well, on wednesday mine cut out twice at the first roundabout i came too - arround 1 min frmo my house. I had the clutch in and it stalled twice....
It's hesitant when pulling away as well, feels as if somethings sticking sometimes. Feels if it idles too low as well when cold, shakes a lot.

The dodgy idle is because it's 3 cylinder. Mine idles between 800-900rpm. I love it when it has just started, the revs run high, at about 1200rpm, much better response etc.

Do you get any of those symptoms i described ?
Also today at the same round about. I pulled up in 2nd gear, seen there was a gap and took it while still moving, the engine cut out, the engine management light came on, i dipped the clutch and reved it and it came back on...

Not really, the only problem I have is pressing down the accelerator a bit, only getting a little power then the revs pic up.
If you EM light came on, it has logged a fault. Get it checked out!

Off topic - its right what deano says, the slightly erratic idle on the 1ltr's is due to the lack of one cylinder - my mate has one that often dips as low as 500rpm and shakes (but doesnt even hint dying?!?).
Mine "holds back" sometimes when u pull off (more often than not when i gt off the motorway!). Ive been told that its my clutch on the way out (its done 50k now town mileage!)... if that helps!
And urmm.. when it "cut out", the ignition might have come on and the lights flickered on for a sec.
The ECU probs wont have logged a fault.. it probs wasnt on long enough...
But have ya clutch checked?

Ahhh yeah, mine is on 65k and there is nothing in the fairly comprehensive service history to say that the clutch has been changed.
Sorry to psycho sport for crashing your thread

It might be that then - you'll be all the way off the clutch and holding the accelorator in the same place and the car just stays that the same rev's! Hang on... we rele have hi-jacked his thread, want any more help we can go u2u lol.
SO yeah... get ya clutch checked *shift eyes*

yeah, I was merely informing him how long the engine typically takes to warm up (not just the water) so he can see if its happening once its warmed up too.
