Once again due to being bored i decided to knock this together. But after the first couple im all out of common problems and solutions. If you have any more feel free to pm me and ill add them or post here. And if you think some of my solutions are crap/dont work or are incorrect then feel free to let me know.

Symptom: Battery Not Holding Charge
Cure: First of all check the earth is secure. Then Check the terminals are all on correctly. If this still does not work then if your battery is not a sealed one try testing the fluid (a battery fluid tester can be bought from machinemart.co.uk for £4) and if necessary topping up the fluid with fresh clean water. Don’t over fill though. If your battery is unsealed then there will be a few points on the top where you can open them with a large screwdriver or similar.

Symptom: Engine Fails to Start on Occasions
Cure: If the engine tries to turn over but seems to struggle then a probable cause is the starter motor. If faulty then this can cause anywhere between £30 and £150 to fix. If the engine turns over but doesn’t fire then worn spark plugs could be to blame. This is a cheap fix and usually cost less than £10 and 5 minutes work. Another cause can be the HT leads; these are the leads that run from the spark plugs to the distributor cap. These are also relatively inexpensive to replace although depending on quality price varies. When changing these it is important the new leads go in the same order as the old ones as it could muck up the firing order otherwise. (Correct firing order for most 4 cylinder corsas is 1-3-4-2)

Symptom: Idle is lumpy or idles high
Cure: More commonly found with the ecotec engines this can be caused by induction kits etc and it usually blows the airflow meter. This isn’t too expensive or hard to fix

Symptom: Engine Will Not Start At all
Cure: If you turn the key and it does not start then this could be a problem with the immobiliser. The car may emit a beep when the key is turned but this is not always the case. This problem can solve itself if the key is turned on and off a number of times as this resets the immobiliser. If this fails then you will require the immobilizer code.

Symptom: Brake Pedal Feels Spongy
Cure: A spongy brake pedal indicates air in the system which indicates that they need bled.

Symptom: Brakes judder under braking
Cure: Warped discs usually cause this so check with a DTI and if they are warped then they need replacing.

Symptom: Engine Overheating
Cure: This could be a number of things; the obvious thing to check is that there is enough coolant in the engine. The next step is to check all hoses for splits etc. Next you can test the thermostat in a kettle. If it isn’t the thermostat then it is either the water pump or just a faulty gauge.

Symptom: Reverse Lights Not Working
Cure: This is usually the reverse light switch on the gearbox. Usually fairly cheap and easy to fix. But before you change the switch make sure you have checked the bulbs first.
