My girlfreind plays the piano to grade 8 or what ever that is and can teach people it.
She wants to do this on the side and offer tutoring on it from home in the future.
Though we do not own a piano does anyone know where i can purchase one from as a suprise/birthday/anervisery/xmas present.
Not got all that much room for one so no grand panios.

Second hand ones can be had dirt cheap, because no-one can ever find a way of delivering them

I played when i was little, learned on a baby grand you really cant beat it.
We had a upright in the house too i cant remember what make it was. They say that sometimes buying an older piano is better as it has a better tone than the new ones. But then you can get problems from where it has been restrung.
TBH im not up on whats good and whats not but if i were to buy one again id get a yamaha
OR a steinway(sure thats what its called) grand if i had 20+k lol

Problem you have is that if you want to do it properly you can't just have any old crap old thing.
Yamaha U series are very popular for teaching, kind of industry standard. You might pick up a U1 for a grand if you are very lucky, or perhaps 1500 quid for a nice one. U3 is a bit bigger and is strung differently so the bass is better but add a few more hundred quid on.
That said, you could get away with something cheaper. What did she learn on? Getting to grade 8 would usually mean having access to some nice gear.

Without sounding like to much of a cunt, i do not really take an interest in that side of her life. As it bores me silly, I don't get the grading thing.
Guess I could ask her parents or ring the school she goes to.
I was looking at yamaha and the price she charges for singing lessons I think it would be worth it to spend a bit as if piano lessons are as much an hour it will be worth the outlay in the first place.
Plus I think having one in the house will make me look cultured lol.

Yes but they are not interesting interests to me personally if she enjoys them then fair enough do them.
No reason for me to get involved, we have joint interests which we do together as well as my interests which I do without it.
It works out well never under each others feet.

Yamaha's are great pianos - usually pretty bright in sound, used quite a bit in pop songs (more grands/baby grands). Might be worth looking for a baby grand for that room - would be hard pushed getting a grand in there and being able to move around properly. Plus they generate a load of noise compared to baby grands/up rights (could be a problem in a small space) - another point to look into, if its upstairs (is it upstairs) you'll hear it throughout the house, so you might have to look at some sort of sound treatment for the floors.
Otherwise, keep an eye out for a decent conditioned upright, cant go wrong really and will probably sound just as nice as a grand in that room 
But like i said jodi, you really need to get her to play it as each piano feels/plays differently.....
