Building supplies just arrive

Gonna have a very busy day today, cos its an upsidedown house and the garden is on a different level to the patio, it means we got to carry a ton of sand, picnic bench, 4 railway sleepers and all the paving slabs down a flight of stairs to the garden

Ah well

New paving slabs, noting particulary special but better than the grey slabs there at the moment.

Sleepers that are going to be used for the wall of the pond...

Will update again this evening with more progress

Knackered already

Bought 20 bags of aggregate, 8 bags of stone chippings, 2 sleepers and the bench down so far. The sleepers weigh a fucking ton, not suprisingly

Had fun getting the bench down the alleyway and stairs

Also got the far side of the pond down to 1.1 metre depth, but still got a lot of digging to do. Slowly getting there though.

Two of the sleepers are gonna make the wall on the left...

Dug more of the actual hole out, and cut in a trench for the concrete foundations for the upright steel bars that will support the sleepers

Got the trench ready for pouring concrete, also drilled a 1.25" hole all the way through one of the sleepers and most of the way through the other one to insert the 1" steel rod into, flipped it upsidedown into position so the bottom sticks into the trench and the top is hidden inside the sleeper, ready to pour the concrete.

Been at it since 9am so going to the pub now for a few well deserved pints

Concrete foundations made with the sleepers in place and the steel rods in position.

Dug some more of the pond out too, got a photo with a shovel in there to give an idea of the depth.

And the liner and underlay has just been delivered

Should be able to fill it with water tomorrow all being well and maybe put the first of the fish in there in the evening (with dechlorinator in the water

)

Do you need to cycle a pond like you do an aquarium before putting fish in or is it OK consideirng the size?
