My Astra Machined drive flange is fucked on my Valver conversion! Its spinning against the inside of my Corsa bearing which means it was either machined wrong or the bearing has seized and casued it to wear... Going dont the breakers this afternoon to get a Astra hub and then get it machined but EXACTLY how much needs machining off it, people say 2mm but is it exactly 2mm? Need exact outside dia of the hub flange so that I can get a GOOD interferance fit...

Any help much appreciated, its kinda urgent as i'd like it doing this afternoon!

You'll need a new bearing anyways. then take the machine shop the bearing, you should machine to within a few thou of the inner diameter of the bearing, machined to fit is better than guessing.

The other bit to remeber it's not jsut the section that goes in to the bearing that needs machining back, the face needs takign back a bit too so it doesn't catch on the face of the hub carrier bit.

agggh! Wish i'd read that bit earlier!!! Went and got a new hub for £5 from breakers, went down to my local machine shop and had it machined down - HOWEVER didnt appreciate that you needed the face bit doing aswell! Went and got it pressed in and ive done a Myke special - brakes wont fit on cos ive not machined the bloody face back so the hub sticks out too far! - Pressed the hub flange back out and demolished the brand new bearing!

Shitter!! No car now for a few days, went and ordered a set of Cossvaux hubs @ £160 the pair - OUCH and also need new bearings, decided im gonna do both sides so the same thing aint gonna happen on the other side in a few months! - im real

dude it sucks anus doesn't it?
mine looked like this whicj was wrong.

the cossvaux ones are doing the job ok.

there are a couple of other ooptions though if you've not ordered yet?....
cav mk2 22 spline cv's.
or corsacentre sell shafts that fit big block inners and small block outers. that'd probably end up costing as much though.

hard luck mate.

i've got one cally hub intact with the external diameter machined to correct size that was never fitted if yuo want it.
it'll need taking back the bit you missed this time, and you'll still need a new bearing, but if you want to percevere with the home-brew method, then it's yours.

just checked.
they're £135 a side.

quite a bit, but if you went for these from the start, then you'd save on replacement bearings and hub machining at least.

dunno wether they're tapered or not. i would expect so if the cv entries are different dimensions.

Cossvaux hubs are paid for, getting new bearings and ball joints too, fitting the lot Wednesday... Wages for the next week spent LOL

Lesson learnt, pissing away £60 to try and save £50 is a no-no!

You could just got for GrpA harry hockley bearings £25 each anf then machine the hub carrier rather than the hub, it was good enough for the grpA novas. Machining of the carrier it £20 a side I think but don't quote me.

Yeah I thought about that option... spoke to them at H.Hockley and he said that i'd need THERE hub flanges as they are NOT astra ones??

Its £35 a side for machining from Hockley then as you say £25 a side for the bearings... Suppose it would be THE best option but ive gone the other route now.

The swivel hubs are about £80 a side I believe so same as Cossvaux but overall would be a stronger setup...

What another SHITE day! Made it to Cossvaux from Notts after much traffic this morning and got my Hub flanges with spacers. When I got back I took my new set of corsa bearings, Corsa hub carriers and new Cossvaux flanges down the road to my local garage that has a good press to do the bearings. Left it with them and collected them this eve. Fitted them once more and found the brakes STILL wouldnt go on! Was wondering what the fuck was going on, then got a horrible sinking feeling...

Where were those cossvaux hub spacers?... Began to tap out the hub flange from the bearing AGAIN as I suspected bad news... They've only gone and fitted the spacers between the hub flange and bearing (on the inside) Fucking IDDIOTS - two more Vaux wheel bearings FUCKED! Im gonna go MAD at the garage tomorrow...
