"The legislation regarding tinted windows is covered by the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations of 1986.

Basically, it allows you to have tints on your windows as follows:-

Front Windscreen - 25% tint
Drivers window and Front Passengers window - 30% tint
All other windows - Unlimited

Common sense should prevail and if you have to roll down your window at night because you can't see through the tint, then there is an obvious road safety issue which has to be addressed.

Finally, if you are in any doubt as to the legality of the tint on your windows, please contact the Traffic department at Livingston Police station and we will be happy to test them for you"

Law has changed due to it being dangerous and reducing visability to a poor level!

No, it was changed cos people are cocks and decide to get thier windows tinted darker than the prescribed legal level causing accidents.

Apparently the law hasnt changed.

Parent just brought a bmw and BMW are having front tints done light (all your allowed now) As they come from germany where the abovew law applies so no front tints.

I think you wont get bothered by the police unless u get pykie bin bags over your front windows that some ppl mistake for "tints"

As Ed says dark tints causing poor visibilty. Which should actually be changed to CHEAP tints. As if they are dont properly it don t matter how dark they are visibility is near 100%

i read in a magazine somewhere that now you can only have rear tints beacuse someone had front tints and couldnt see this guy on a motorbike coming up the side of him and then drove stright into him and the guy on the bike ended up dying. Therefore they made front tints illegal. But thats jus something i read not too sure if it is true.

theres so many different things ppl are sayin! we need to get an official percentage from police or something so we can make sure its less than that, n theres no way we can get fined for it.... i wanna get mine done but i wont get it done unless its professionally done and i know what the figure is..

no the legal limit is a %30 tint, because i got pulled 3 weeks ago for mine and was told anything more that a %30 is illegal. if you look on the etching on the glass it should say %70 visable.

you cannot apply any after market tint to the windows,. the windows from some corsas are tinted by about 5% if that.
