Would the top speed be effected though as you will only have 5 gears instead of 6?? Or would it mean you'd just be revving the bollox off it in 5th instead of cruising in 6th?

So if it had 6 gears it would still only make 180mph? The fact that you done 180mph in 5 gears means nothing to me cause theres no comparison with a 6 speed box.

What difference would that make to the gear box?

It wouldn't, I think he was referring to the fact that while an F28 is obviously the better option, it is easier to fit the F20 as that is for fwd.

I agree with your point on rebuilding too. I had my XE completely rebuilt while it was out as I bought the donor car with no history (it was very cheap though), as such I had no idea of the condition of the engine and I didn't want to run the risk of something major going wrong down the line.

Having said that it did turn out to be very expensive when you add all the parts up, piston rings, head machining, new gasket set, oil pump, water pump, bore glaze busting, full new bearing set, leads, plugs etc etc. Mine ended up a two page list and cost nearly as much as Beardy charges for engine and fitting. With this in mind you can see why people are so keen just to buy one and drop it in.

As for the gearbox question I THINK that the F28 is capable of a higher top speed compared to the F20. I would guess however that a 200bhp on an F28 would still do the same as a 200bhp engine on an F20. I have no facts to back this up though. Try MIG for much better advice on these things than I can give.

Yes it would affect it as the gear ratios are longer in the 6 speeder.

The F28 is origionally a 4wd box, yeah, he said they origionally fitted the F28 to the LET so it must work better, i was just stating the LET was never origionally fitted to a 2 wheel drive car so they had no option but to develop a 4wd box for it

my mate has a Mk2 Astra GTE with a LET and F28 in it, he's had 160mph outta that, but all the XE's and F20's he's ever had, the best he's seen is 150mph, with some big power.

No, the £300-odd would be to fit the F28 in 2WD mode into a Corsa, regardless of whether it was an F20 or standard gearbox in there already.

as mentioned before the power difference is not down the to head bu due to the cats and also earlier EX's had mahle forged pistons as standard which was lter phased out.

but i would preffer an XE over a LET as most LETS have a problem with traction etc

How do you tell what pistons you have?

Take them out, have a look underneath and see if there's any tell-tale numbers cast into it.

Are you having problems with your pistons?

If not, then forget about them.

sorry but do brakes not go in accordance to the top speed of the car and if so what the fcuk is so wrong with fitting these brakes to a car that can only goes as fast as a xe (when using f20)only difference is it gets there faster
