The ironic thing is, I had to fit a Quaife box for it to break and to see those very nice men from the AA

beardys price of 2690 or whatever was for a cheap conversion, yeah he didnt allow for any re-builds etc or servicing but people are going on about an XE conv for £1500 but this doesnt include any servicing or re-builds, so y argue saying u need to re-build a LET adding price when u arent saying u nedd to same to an XE?

v-tuning prices taken from a mail i got off them:

For a C20XE engine and gearbox(F20) package your
looking in the region of about £450 but for a C20LET engine and
gearbox(F28) there in the region of £1600.

When it comes to conversion prices, in order to fit the C20XE we would
charge £1500 and to fit the C20LET we charge £2000. Both of these prices
exclude the actual cost of the engines themselves as stated above but
will include all the labour to carry out the work and also the uprated
hubs/shafts, engine mounts and special adaptors that are required for
this type of conversion. The only additions would say be any other parts
that you would require extra to the standard package.

With either conversion we would however advise that uprated brakes and
suspension are considered(at extra cost)

as somebody said earlyer its all about the money

There isn't a wrong or right answer really about what gear box to use. You can use either with the LET conversion. At the end of the day you do what you want to do and what you can afford to do.

I was always lead to believe that the F28 was better because it doesn't cause the engine to be revved so high which isn't good for the turbo but then I could be talking bollox cause I don't really know so you're more then welcome to tell me im wrong

The majority of conversions I have seen an F20 has been used.

And as for whether the engines should be re-conditioned. Surely this is advisable whenever you put an old engine into your car. Its obviously better to change what you can while the engine out the car and parts are easily accessible and then when the engine goes in you should have a nice sweet running engine. But again if you can't afford to go down that route you can just replace things as they go wrong.

This site is good for advice but I would never do what people tell me to do, I would do what I thought was the right thing to do.

I don't really think you can say right this conversion will cost you X amount. It all depends where you source your parts from. All you can really say is a LET conversion is far more expensive than an XE and there are more factors to consider. Plus a LET needs to be fiited by a capable mechanic not a jack the lad.

shorter ratios will just make the car have a lower speed in each gear the engine will still have a limiter

Yeah I know that the engine will still have a limiter.

But surely if you wanted to drive the engine to its full potential an F28 would be better than a F20.
