Hey guys.

Since I bought my GSi two years ago, I've had a problem with my EGR valve. Finally, I've got the shiitts, and I'm taking a stand! Taking a fcuking stand, I tell ya!

I've just ordered an EGR gasket from GM (don't have it yet - here in a few days), and I was going to take it to a sheet metal place, to get them to make me a little blanking plate the same size/shape. Just got a few questions:

* Does it have to be made in any special way? Like, does it have to be made from stainless steel, or will normal steel be fine? (I'm guessing it will be, but thought I'd ask anyway).

* There is nothing else that I'd need to do to the engine when I have this installed, is there? I mean, I don't need to do something drastic, like changing bloody fuel maps or anything, do I? It's just a case of fitting it, and the EGR becomes ineffective, yeah? (please say yes, please say yes).

Is there anything else that I need to know?

Thanks a stack guys. All help much appreciated.

im not an expert on this mod, but from what i know is that its just a case of blocking of the EGR valve (steel or stainless steel will be fine) and that u dont have to do anythin else

u must have a 1.6 sport mate, cos the gsi's over here dont have them , just the newer sports, what reg is urs?

You're my bloody guardian angel today mate! Thanks for all your help.

I've got a 95 model GSi. She's got an X16XE in her. We never got the Sport here in Australia, but we got the GSi from 94-97. They started off with the C16XE in it for the 94 model, but 95, 96 and 97 got the X16. 94 and 95 models got the full GSi bodykit, but our 96 and 97 model lost it all, along with the colour coding.

But yeah mate, she's defo a GSi. ABS, GSi interior and all that. I've got some plans for her coming soon. When they're done, I'll post some pics for all you poms to see.

In the meantime though, check out this site for all us Aussie Corsasport members pics.

yes u can use anything metal to block it off ive heard of people using 5p peices and coke cans

ive had mine disconnected for a while now and its running great and i didnt have to anything else to the car.

so yes, it is just a case of blanking off the valve and the egr will no longer recirculate the exhaust gases back into the inlet of which its job is.

just a quick question though, have u tried giving it a clean with a bit of carb cleaner at all??? apparantly vauxhall recommend this at around 40000 miles anyway due to carbon deposits causing a blockage!

good luck anyway like i said i did mine myself and its been fine

Are we talking about the egr valve on the back of the inlet manifold?

The ECU light will come on if you unplug it.

Blocking it off is a doddle.

Hey guys.

Yep Kerry, I've actually had her in to Holden about four times to have either the EGR replaced, or have it cleaned. I've spent about AU$3000 (think that's about UK1200) trying to have this problem rectified. She runs perfectly for a while after being cleaned, then she has these wierd fits again (light coming on, engine going crazy and stalling). Holden say that there's no faults stored on the ECU memory either, even though the light comes on.

I know you can't just reef out the EGR, so I'm going to have it blocked off. I'm going to have it done by a local mechanic, who is an Opel specialist, cos I'd have NO idea what I'm doing!

Thanks mate. That's my baby. I sprayed that rocker cover myself, only took me 3 tries over 2 days! I'm pretty shiitt when it comes to a spraycan! Came out perfectly after the 3rd try though! Very happy.

Having a cold air box made from aluminum soon. Made a cardboard template, but haven't got my ass into gear to have it made in metal. I'm gonna get it done when I go to the sheet metal place for the EGR blanking plate, I think.

Hey guys.

Right, I've got my EGR valve gasket. Now, which of the holes do I need to have blanked off? I know the two on the extreme sides are for bolts. Do I need to have both of the big holes blanked out?

Thanks a heap guys!

just make a new gasket without the two holes in the middle but drill the ones at the side kus the bolts for the valve go threw them

u can just draw round it on a sheet of suitable metal

No problems, but a word of warning . . .

. . . no doubt, when the Aussie lads and ladies find out that you're coming over from the UK, I'm sure you'll recieve a list, about 500 pages long, with all the upgrade stuff they want you to bring them! Hahahaha! Engines, whole body kits, etc . . .

Hope you know people on the wharves that can help you smuggle the stuff in without paying for transport! Hahahaha!

Just jokin'.

Thanks again Kerry. You've been an incredible help.

I've blocked mine using a bolt (or is it a nut in English:lol1.4 16v
Power for Peanuts!
The ECU light stays off and the engine pull better (I also have the Mantzel power box so doing this job is much easier)
I just remove the (bolt or nut) for the MOT

With the superchip plus Optimax 100 it gave a better pulling engine

Aussie GSI

Do you know something about Whiteline springs and Koni shocks?
Is it a good kit? Not to harsh?

Thnks
