Yes if you do recieve a letter always ask for the pictures. I researched into this sort of stuff alot as my first corsa was stolen then cauht sppeding along the sea front. Traffic police came to my house, arrested me on suspision of perverting the cause of justice! If you don't hear anything in two weeks your fine. If you do it'll be 3 points and a £60 fine. But if you get 3 more points (a total of 6) before you've owned your license for 2 years then you lose it and have to re-apply for a provisional, re-sit all the tests and then will have a license with 6 point on again. It's a horrible circle. BUT there are loop holes. Although i don't recommend any of them unless your innocent like i was.
If a letter comes through i would hold your hands up and recieve the penalty. If you fight it it'll go to court then you can face up to 12 points and £1000 fine. Not worth the risk.

By the way if any one gets caught by a police officer with a hand held gun always ask to see the calibration forks for tuning the gun and ensure he's wearing his hat. Police cannot enforce the law without a hat. This doesn't mean you can steal it though as that's classed as theft and impersonating an officer. Not a good move. lol.
